Starship Troopers: Extermination, the 16-player FPS game by Offworld, will launch out of Early Access on October 11, 2024. During IGN Live, Casper Van Dien, who starred as Johnny Rico in the 1997 film, announced that the game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. He also revealed a new single-player mode featuring his iconic character, General John “Johnny” Rico. This new mode includes 25 missions and various PvE combat scenarios, with more content to follow after the launch. Casper Van Dien is known for his role as Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers. He has starred in films like Sleepy Hollow, Tarzan and the Lost City, Alita: Battle Angel, and Doolittle’s Heroes. On TV, Van Dien appeared in All American, Salvage Marines, and Monk. Finally, Starship Troopers: Extermination hits consoles! Been watching the PC players blast away at bugs for months, and now it's my turn. Can't wait to team up with friends and level up our troopers. Plus, a single-player mode with General Rico? That's the cherry on top!

Sweet, the 1.0 launch for Starship Troopers: Extermination! Hopefully, it irons out any remaining bugs (pun intended) from Early Access. The new content looks cool, especially those environments in the trailer. Though, I gotta say, $29.99 for Early Access feels a bit steep compared to the full 1.0 release price. Maybe new players can snag a deal!

Single-player campaign with Johnny Rico? Color me intrigued! While co-op can be fun, sometimes you just want to blast bugs on your own terms. Having a narrative-driven campaign alongside the traditional multiplayer action is a great addition. Just hope the single-player has enough replayability to keep me coming back for more.

You know, I'm excited about this Starship Troopers: Extermination game, but Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico again just rubs me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, I love the cheesy fun of the first movie, but in the book by Robert Heinlein, Rico is Filipino! Van Dien's all-American portrayal just washes that whole aspect of the character away.

It's 2024, and we still can't seem to cast Asian actors for Asian characters? And it's not like there's a lack of talented Filipino actors out there. Imagine a Starship Troopers movie reboot with a Filipino Rico, maybe alongside an Izzy and Carmen who are also Filipino! That would be way more faithful to the source material and a breath of fresh air in Hollywood casting.

Look, I'm all for Van Dien reprising his role for a bit of fan service, but Starship Troopers: Extermination seems like the perfect opportunity to finally get it right. Here's hoping Hollywood catches up with the times and gives us a Rico that looks like the Rico Heinlein wrote.

Starship Troopers: Extermination 1.0 launch? Time to dust off my trophy case! Those 25 single-player missions sound like a goldmine for achievements. Imagine popping a trophy for surviving a wave with low health or completing a mission with zero civilian casualties (yeah, right!). Plus, the co-op achievements will be a blast to grind with friends. Just gotta be the first one in my squad to unlock the elusive "Rico's Right Hand Man" achievement! Bring on the Arachnid hordes
