Those who were around for the 16-bit video game generation may remember the 1994 action RPG Illusion Of Gaia for the SNES. Though it had its fans, it apparently wasn’t […]

Illusion of Gaia had its merits, but the pacing felt off, especially with how it juggled its story arcs and gameplay mechanics. It tried to tackle some interesting themes, but the execution often left me wanting more depth rather than just nostalgia.

Never heard of this game before but the story sounds interesting. A kid rebuilding the planet after everything got destroyed, that is a heavy concept for a SNES era game. Might actually check this out when it releases since I am always looking for JRPGs with unique themes instead of the usual save the princess plot.

Finally! I imported this game on my SNES back in 1998 because I could not wait for an official release, and now in 2026 it is actually happening. I still remember the ending, it hit me hard as a teenager. The story about rebuilding the world stayed in my head for years. I am glad younger players will get to experience it without needing to learn Japanese or German first. Early 2027 feels far away but after 30 years what is a few more months. I just hope they keep the original music mostly intact because that soundtrack is one of the best on the console. Fujiwara coming back to work on new art is a nice touch too, shows real care for the project instead of just slapping the old game on a store page.

People acting like this is some huge miracle but let us be real, it is just a company realizing there is money to be made from nostalgia. Not saying that is bad, I will probably buy it too, but let us not pretend this is some pure act of love for the fans. Companies sit on these licenses for decades and only move when they see other retro re-releases doing well financially. Still curious how much they will charge for a 30 year old game with maybe some quality of life patches. If it is priced like a full AAA title I will wait for a sale instead of buying day one.

My older brother used to talk about this game all the time when I was a kid, he played the German version somehow. I never got to try it myself so this release means I finally get a chance. Excited does not even cover it.

Kamui Fujiwara doing new art for this makes me really happy. His character designs in the original game had so much personality despite the SNES limitations. Curious to see how his style translated to a higher resolution screen. I hope the studio does not just clean up the graphics without asking him for input on the actual visual direction. Some remasters look worse because they smooth everything out and lose the original charm completely. Since he is directly involved with feedback this time, there is a decent chance the visual identity stays true to what made the original special. Also hoping the translation gets a proper pass since older localizations sometimes had rough dialogue due to time and budget constraints back then.

This is one of those games gaming forums always brought up as a hidden gem that never got a fair chance in the West. Glad it is finally getting proper recognition instead of just emulator downloads and grainy video guides online.
