The Last Sunrise (2026): A Heartfelt Mallorca Romance Wrapped in Secrets and Second Chances

What Am I made for?
I caught "The Last Sunrise" last month and was pleasantly surprised by how it balanced the romance with deeper themes of redemption and personal growth. The Mallorca setting was visually stunning and added a really special layer to the storytelling. I appreciated how they unfolded the secrets gradually, keeping me invested in the characters' journeys. What were your thoughts on the chemistry between the leads? I thought their performances really brought the emotional weight of the story to life.

I saw the trailer already and I think Maia Reficco is going to surprise a lot of people with this one. She always had that soft emotional face that works so well for these kind of roles, but this time the story is heavier so I am curious how she handles the illness part without making it feel forced. Mallorca as a location is honestly a smart choice too, the coastline alone will carry half the mood of the film. I just hope they don't rush the romance part to fit the runtime, because these adaptations sometimes cut too much from the book and the connection between the leads feels fake. If they let the relationship grow slow and natural, this could be one of the better romance dramas this year. I am adding it to my watchlist for sure.

Not sure about this one honestly. Sick girl falls in love in a beautiful place story has been done so many times already. The trailer looks nice but the plot summary sounds like every other YA novel adaptation from the last ten years. I will still watch it because Mallorca looks amazing on screen but my expectations are low for anything new here.

Anna Todd book adaptations always hit different for me, I read this novel last year and cried through half of it. The mother daughter conflict in the book was actually more powerful than the romance part in my opinion. I really hope the movie keeps that family drama strong because that was the emotional core for me, not just Ry and Julian.

This looks like something my mom would want to watch with me on a Friday night. The location alone sells it, Mallorca is stunning and I feel like half the audience will book flights after watching. Excited for this one.

I keep seeing these illness romance movies coming out one after another lately and I wonder if studios think this genre is guaranteed money now. Not hating on it, just noticing the pattern. Will still give this a chance since the cast seems solid.

Maia Reficco has range, no doubt about that, but I am more curious about the actor playing Julian since he is the one who has to bring the charm and spontaneity part alive. Chemistry between leads makes or breaks these romance dramas, the plot can be predictable but bad chemistry ruins everything instantly. From the trailer their scenes together look promising though, the eye contact and body language seem natural. I also appreciate that this is not another teenage high school setting, college age characters dealing with real adult problems like health and family secrets feels more mature. Hoping the ending does not go for the cheap tearjerker trick everyone expects and instead gives something a little more grounded and real.

Question, does anyone know if this film stays close to the book ending or changes it? I remember the ending being controversial among readers when the novel came out.

Beautiful trailer, beautiful location, predictable plot. That is my honest first impression before even watching the full movie.

The family secrets angle is what caught my attention the most, not the romance. Chronic illness stories usually focus only on the couple but this one seems to build tension between mother and daughter too, which adds more depth than just another summer love story. If the writing handles both threads properly instead of favoring one over the other, this could turn into something more memorable than typical romance dramas we usually get from streaming platforms this year.
