THE LEGEND!!! Ok this is a certified classic and I will hear no slander. A 2007 historical epic built on the Four Gods mythology? The scale of it still holds up, they really said 'go epic or go home.' If anyone has been sleeping on the older sageuk era, this is the one I'd hand them first. Now I'm tempted to rewatch instead of doing literally anything productive.

I had heard of this drama before, but I never paid attention to it because I assumed it was just another old historical series. Reading about the mix of mythology, reincarnation, palace politics, and the Four Gods actually made me curious. I like stories where destiny creates problems instead of solving them. Dam-Deok having to deal with enemies, expectations, and the possibility of repeating an ancient tragedy sounds more interesting than a simple hero story. The fact that so many familiar actors appeared in this when they were younger is also a nice surprise. I think older dramas sometimes get ignored because of their age, but some of them have ideas that still hold up today.

I am a simple viewer. You tell me there is a White Tiger, Blue Dragon, Black Turtle, and a Phoenix involved in a historical fantasy drama, and I am already interested. I grew up liking stories about legendary creatures, so seeing Korean mythology used this way sounds fun. I also like that the supernatural part is connected to politics instead of being there only for special effects. I honestly had no idea this show was doing this kind of fantasy back in 2007.
