The Rocketeer: Infiltrator Announced For This Summer By IDW

The Rocketeer definitely deserves more recognition than just the Disney movie! The character's origins as a pulp hero in the 1930s are rich with stories and adventure. I love how the artwork captures that vintage feel, blending beautifully with the art deco influences. The upcoming IDW series, Infiltrator, has me excited—I'm curious to see how they navigate his world and expand on Cliff Secord’s character.

For those who might not be as familiar with the comics, the original series by Dave Stevens has some stunning artwork and character development that really sets it apart from the film. Have you read the original comics? What are you hoping to see in the new series?

Rocketeer never gets old. Pulp action from the 30s still hits hard. Infiltrator plot with exploding planes and Nazi tech is straight out of the old serials. Glad IDW keeps the series going strong. Hardman loving Dave Stevens since he was a kid is a good sign he’ll treat it right.

This is the kind of comic I’ve been missing. Real 1930s adventure, no modern politics shoved in. Cliff fighting Nazis with the rocket, Betty doing spy work, a jealous MI6 guy – it’s pure fun. Hardman’s Batman stuff was decent, so I have hopes here. Dean Kotz better bring his A-game on the planes and explosions. Excited.

Love that they’re doing more with Betty’s acting career as the cover. Makes her useful in the plot instead of just eye candy. The whole Allied planes blowing up mystery has me curious. Summer can’t come soon enough. IDW knows how to keep this franchise alive. Respect to Dave Stevens forever.

I like that they are giving Betty a bigger role in this story. For a long time, she felt like just a side character who is there for looks, even if she had personality. Making her part of the undercover mission sounds more balanced. I also think the spy angle is a good idea because the 1930s setting already fits that kind of story. The part about an MI6 agent being interested in her might create some tension, but I hope it does not turn into too much drama. I want to see teamwork, not just jealousy. I have read some older Rocketeer comics, and the tone works best when it stays focused on action and adventure. If the writer keeps that focus and uses the setting well, this could be a strong series. I am also curious how they will show the Nazi superweapon without making it too unrealistic.

I have been following IDW’s Rocketeer books, and they are usually consistent. Not perfect, but readable and respectful. This new one sounds like it is trying to be more story driven instead of just short adventures. That is a good change. I also like that they are giving equal focus to Cliff and Betty, because earlier stories sometimes ignored that balance. The part about the island story with Amelia Earhart also shows they are willing to try different ideas. That gives me some confidence. I will probably buy the first issue when it comes out. My only concern is pacing. Some past issues felt too quick. If they slow down and build tension properly, this could be one of the better recent runs.

I grew up watching the movie, so I have some attachment to the character. I never went deep into the comics, but I always liked the design and the simple hero idea. Reading this makes me feel a bit excited again. The mix of action and mystery works for me. I also like that they are not ignoring Betty. In the movie, she had some moments, but I wanted more. This could fix that. The only thing I worry about is if they make the story too serious. Part of the charm is that it feels fun and light, even with danger. If they keep that balance, I think it will work well. I will probably pick it up when it releases.
