Buffy Not To Be Re-Vamped After All As Hulu Passes On Pilot

This is quite surprising, but Hulu just spent about a year’s worth of time hyping the development of a continuation of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, putting together a pilot and […]

It's definitely surprising to hear that Hulu decided to pass on the Buffy reboot after all that hype. Fans have been so vocal about wanting more from that universe. It would have been interesting to see how they brought the story into the present day. What do you all think? Should they try again or just leave it as is?

DamnI was actually excited for this one. Ryan Kiera Armstrong looked perfect as the new Slayer and having Sarah Michelle Gellar back even for one scene sounded cool. But if Chloé Zhao says she’s not surprised it got canceled, that tells me something was seriously off from the start. Probably the script or the tone didn’t feel like Buffy at all. Sucks but I’d rather they don’t make it than ruin the legacy. Better no new show than a bad one.

This is so disappointing. I waited a whole year for any news and now it’s dead? Sarah filmed something, Chloé Zhao directed it, everything looked promising. But if there were big creative fights with Hulu then yeah it was never gonna work. Hope they try again someday with someone who actually gets the show. The demand is clearly there.

Called it. The second they announced a new Slayer but still wanted to use the Buffy name I knew it would crash. You can’t have a Buffy show without Buffy being the main character. Sarah Michelle Gellar in one random scene wasn’t gonna fix that. Chloé Zhao seems chill about it though. Respect.

I’m not even mad, I’m just confused. Hulu spent all that time and money hyping it up only to kill it after the pilot? Must have been really bad. Or maybe the executives got scared it wouldn’t bring in enough new subscribers. Either way the mystery is kinda funny now. Wonder if the pilot will ever leak.

Sad but I get it. The original Buffy is perfect the way it is. Trying to continue it with a whole new cast and director was always risky. Chloé Zhao saying they see themselves as guardians of the show is nice, but clearly something didn’t click. Better to walk away than force something fans will hate. Maybe reboot the original someday instead.

Bro what? They had Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chloé Zhao, and a talented new actress and still said no? That pilot must have been straight up terrible. Or Hulu just didn’t see the money in it. Either way this whole thing feels like a waste of everyone’s time. Fans deserved better than this rollercoaster.

This is confusing to me. They had a director like Chloé Zhao and still could not agree? That sounds like a big problem inside the project. When someone like her says she is not surprised, I take that seriously. It means there were issues early on. I do not think the pilot was simply bad. I think it was a disagreement about tone or direction. Maybe Hulu wanted something more commercial, while Zhao wanted something more serious. That kind of conflict can stop a show completely. I feel bad for the new actress because this could have been a big role for her. At the same time, I am not sure fans would accept a new Slayer easily. Buffy is very tied to Sarah Michelle Gellar. Without her as the main focus, it is risky. So maybe Hulu decided the risk was too high.
