Do any of you readers happen to be parents, specifically of children who asked for KPop Demon Hunters toys this holiday season? Sure hope not….because there WEREN’T ANY! Before the movie launched in late June, there were no plans whatsoever to produce merch out of it, and the lead time from design to store is usually about a year. Sure hope you didn’t have to find this out the hard way! The demand has created a vacuum, though, something that whether Sony or Netflix likes it or not, a bootleg can easily fill. Dan Thut, a long time D&D enthusiast, has a young daughter who wants to pick up the hobby herself, but he felt the games he played were too advanced and mature for her. He noticed that she’s also into KPDH, so a KPDH tabletop game that’s 5E compatible would be the perfect fit…if only it existed. He decided to make it exist…in a way. The specific characters in the movie couldn’t be used, but the general IDEA of KPop stars fighting demons with exotic weapons while wearing flashy clothes is free for anyone to explore. And after some hard work, he wound up with Idols of the […]

Okay, I’m not gonna lie, I’m intrigued. A game where K-pop idols fight demons with rhythm? That’s some next-level creativity. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen something like this before. I feel like people will be all over it once it drops. It’s got that cool, futuristic style that’s really trendy right now, and it’s nice that it’s approachable for all ages. The fact that he made it 5E compatible is huge too, because that means it’s gonna be easy for D&D players to pick up. I wouldn’t be surprised if this blows up once the Kickstarter goes live. The theme is just too good to pass up.

I’m really not sold on this whole K-pop meets demon hunter thing. Sure, it’s a cool idea, but it feels a little too niche, you know? I get that it’s 5E-compatible and that makes it easier to jump in, but I don’t know how many people are going to be into this whole K-pop aesthetic for a tabletop RPG. The whole “rhythm and song” thing seems kinda gimmicky, and while it’s great that there’s an option for kids, I don’t see how it’ll translate to hardcore players. Maybe I’m just too old school for this kind of thing.

I’m all for quirky RPGs, and this one really hits a sweet spot. The K-pop + demon hunting combo is wild, but I think that’s exactly what makes it work. It’s going to appeal to so many different people — from casual gamers to people who are into the K-pop culture. The whole neon-fantasy setting is also pretty fun, and it feels like there’s a lot of potential for creativity. That "Gore On/Off" feature is genius, by the way. I’m curious to see how the Kickstarter turns out and whether the community will rally behind it.

You know, I’m really liking the concept behind this game. It’s bold, it’s fun, and it’s got that unique blend of pop culture and fantasy that a lot of people are craving these days. The idea of K-pop idols as the heroes in this neon-fantasy world really sets it apart from other RPGs. And having a simple entry point with 5E compatibility is brilliant. I can already see this becoming a hit for both seasoned RPG players and newcomers. I’m hoping the Kickstarter campaign blows up because this could seriously take off.
