Crunchyroll’s Next Anime Nights Screening Is Fruits Basket -prelude-

Fruits Basket fans eating good right now. Prelude focusing on Tohru’s mom is exactly what we needed after the main series ended. Her past was always teased but never fully shown like this. Yoshihide Ibata directing again is a good sign—dude knows how to handle emotional scenes. I’m probably gonna cry when Kyoko starts opening up to Katsuya. Tickets already in cart. If your date likes romance anime, this is way better than another generic dinner.

Eh, two days late for Valentine’s but I get it—Monday makes sense for theater schedules. Still hyped for Kyoko’s story. She’s one of my favorite characters ever. Tough exterior, broken inside, then this kind teacher shows up and changes everything. That slow-burn love story deserves the big screen. Dub cast sounds great—J. Michael Tatum as Katsuya is spot-on casting. Might go alone and just soak it in. Crunchyroll actually doing something special for once.

Two extra days after Valentine’s? Crunchyroll really said “romance later, peasants.” Still buying a ticket though. Kyoko’s story is the one part of Fruits Basket I always wanted more of—her delinquent days, the pain, then finding actual love. This prequel looks like it’s gonna fill that gap perfectly. Voice cast is solid on both sides, but I’m going dub because Laura Bailey as kid Tohru is too cute to miss. Hope the theater isn’t packed with couples being loud.

Okay, Kyoko and Katsuya’s love story is sweet, I admit. But calling this the “turbulent beginning” and “dark past” feels a bit dramatic for what we already know. The series already showed most of it. Is this prelude just repackaged content with better animation? TMS did good work before, but I’m skeptical it’ll feel fresh enough for a theater ticket. If it’s mostly slow talking scenes, I’d rather stay home and rewatch the show on Crunchyroll for free.
