Breaking Glass Pictures has announced their new thriller Sway is now available to US audiences. The movie launched on digital platforms December 2. Sway follows a respected Black community leader whose world spirals out of control after his brother goes missing. Within hours, he is blackmailed by a mysterious woman, and a sudden murder forces him to confront the lengths he will go to in order to protect the people he loves. If you’re tired of movies these days that go on for three hours, Sway keeps things blessedly brief at just 99 minutes. The film was originally released last year and has toured the indie festival circuit over the last few months, screening at the Pan African Film Festival, Toronto Black Film Festival, and African International Film Festival, among others. Along the way it’s picked up several awards including Best Feature Film at the National Black Film Festival, Best Original Score at the Hollywood North Film Awards, and Best Actress for Mishael Morgan at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. Sway stars Emmanuel Kabongo (Outer Banks, Star Trek: Discovery), Mishael Morgan (Young and the Restless, Total Recall), Lovell Adams-Gray (Brother, Power Book II: Ghost), Brittany Raymond (The Next Step, Dare Me), and Paul […]

ooh short and sweet! I like movies that are focused, so the 99-minute length sounds good to me. I sometimes get tired from long films, and this feels more manageable after work. The story about a community leader dealing with his brother going missing feels heavy but meaningful. I want to see how he handles the pressure and the decisions he has to make. I also like that the cast includes actors I already know from shows I watch. Mishael Morgan winning an award makes me more confident that her part is strong. I might check it out this weekend.

I am interested in stories that deal with moral choices, so this grabbed my attention right away. A man who tries to protect everyone around him and then gets pushed into a corner feels realistic. Life can be messy, and people sometimes end up doing things they never expected. I also enjoy films from the festival circuit because they usually have a more personal style. I have never heard of the directors before, but I want to see how they handle the pacing and the tension.

I am glad to see a thriller from Black filmmakers getting more exposure. Festivals often show great work, but many people never hear about those movies after. The awards give me hope that the production team put real thought into every part, especially the music since it won for best score. I care a lot about sound design. A good soundtrack can build stress without shouting at the viewer. I plan to buy it during my day off.

I got interested when I saw the festival names. I lived near Toronto for a few years, and I remember how much attention the Black film festivals brought to smaller movies. Many of them were emotional and well-written. The fact that this one traveled to so many places means people connected with it. I hope the digital release helps it reach more people who do not normally watch indie films. I want to support that.
