Today Crunchyroll published the third season trailer for the pop idol drama【Oshi no Ko】(the bold brackets are part of the title). At the same time, they also released key poster art for the season, which is set to make its stage debut in January.

The show is about the career of J-pop star Aquamarine Hoshino, and if you know nothing about the series, wait'll you hear how HE got his foot in the door. Dr. Gorou Amemiya was working at his clinic one fateful night when the young starlet Ai Hoshino, about to give birth, rushed into his room. Due to secrecy surrounding the father, Goro had to agree to keep the delivery a secret. Unfortunately, the meeting wasn't secret ENOUGH, as Ai's stalker appeared out of nowhere, killing Goro! That caused him to be immediately reincarnated as...Ai's baby, Aquamarine! They say you have to be born into this business...they weren't kidding.

Season 3 starts six months after the album “POP IN 2” has been released. Thanks to MEMcho’s hard work, B-Komachi is about to get their big break. Aqua is now a multi-talented entertainer, and Akane’s career as a talented actress is going well. Meanwhile, Kana lost the cheerfulness she once had. To track down the truth behind Ai and Goro’s deaths, Ruby keeps rising in the entertainment world…using lies as a weapon.

The Season 3 trailer for【Oshi no Ko】reveals the ending theme, which was performed by singer-songwriter natori. Season 3 Season 3 is directed by Daisuke Hiramaki (Asteroid in Love), with the series composition written by Jin Tanaka (The Misfit of Demon King Academy), who both previously worked on Season 1 and 2. The animation comes from DOGA KOBO (Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian). Season 3 of【Oshi no Ko】begins January 16 on Crunchyroll.

I’m excited for this season because the story finally catches up to Ruby’s real mission. The revenge plot has been teased for so long. I also feel bad for Kana. She used to be the emotional balance in B-Komachi, and now she looks lost. I hope Aqua doesn’t manipulate her again. He has turned into a colder person compared to before.

I watched both seasons, and I still think this anime has one of the boldest premises ever made for an idol series. The whole reincarnation twist made me care about Aqua’s pain and his obsession with uncovering the truth behind Ai’s death. Seeing how far Ruby is willing to go for revenge makes me nervous, though. She’s not the same cheerful girl from Season 1 anymore. DOGA KOBO’s animation looks strong again, and I’m glad the same team is returning. The trailer made the story feel darker, like it’s moving past the usual idol drama and becoming more of a psychological study of fame and trauma.

Guys, Akane’s development. She is one of the most complex characters in the series. Her acting skills are impressive, but she still seems emotionally fragile. Maybe this season will let her grow outside of Aqua’s influence.

The director and writer staying the same makes me feel confident. Season 2 had a few slow episodes, but the storytelling stayed consistent. The visuals for Season 3’s key art look promising, and natori’s song feels like a perfect emotional fit for the tone.I think Aqua’s obsession is starting to destroy him. He’s becoming the very thing he hates. Ruby is slowly walking the same path. It’s interesting that both siblings are using lies as their tools. Maybe the story will show how revenge corrupts them both.

Kana losing her cheerfulness really hurts. She’s my favorite. Her career was supposed to bounce back with B-Komachi, but now it looks like she’s falling behind. I think she represents the ordinary talent trying to survive between geniuses like Aqua and Ruby.

I’ve seen a weird amount of hate online calling Oshi no Ko “incest” or just weird for its premise. It frustrates me because that’s such a lazy reading. The show is not about romanticizing that — it’s much more about revenge, trauma, and the cruel side of fame.I’m one of those people who is strongly against the manga ending. After everything Aqua went through, some fans are really upset that it “just ends” the way it did.
I don’t know if the anime will change that, but I’m not even sure I’ll stick around unless it gives me something more.

I actually think the wait is going to pay off. Studio Doga Kobo seems to be taking their time, and if you ask me, that could mean better animation, more emotional weight, and maybe better pacing. Some Reddit fans agree that the anime could improve on how things felt rushed in the manga.

There is something sad about how a show I once followed so passionately is now haunted by disappointment. I saw fans comparing the end of Oshi no Ko to other famously poor endings. But despite that, I still believe in the characters. Ruby and Aqua still fascinate me. So I’m going to watch Season 3 and hope they reclaim what made the series compelling in the first place.

I kept thinking: what if the anime adaptation uses this chance to diverge from the manga and give us a different ending? Many on Reddit are saying that’s the only way for Season 3 to work. >!“I hope the studio puts in some anime original content going forward.
If they choose that route, I’m all for it. If they don’t, I worry we’ll relive the same frustration.
