The isekai anime OVERLORD turns ten at the end of this year, and Crunchyroll is loading up a special celebration as part of their monthly Anime Nights theatrical program. The first seven episodes of the series will be shown in theaters under the title Last Night to Login: OVERLORD 10th Anniversary Celebration. It’ll be the first time the series has been shown on the big screen. OVERLORD is about Momonga, your average Japanese wage slave who leads a guild in an MMORPG in his leisure time. He’s been playing for twelve years, but he’s heard the servers are finally shutting down…so he prepares to log in one last time and say farewell to his character and crew. He didn’t expect that one last session to last indefinitely. Somehow, he’s in the world of the game and has ascended to the title of Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown. Last Night to Login: OVERLORD 10th Anniversary Celebration will be screened for one night only (and fair warning in case this is a dealbreaker: it will be the English dub version). Check your local listings for Monday, November 17 at 7 PM, the day it’s set to premiere. All seasons of OVERLORD are […]

Momonga’s transformation into Ains Ooal Gown was always fascinating to watch at home, but I think the theater will make his presence feel much more imposing. I am curious how the English dub will handle some of the more serious moments, especially the subtle humor in interactions with the NPCs. For long-time fans, this might be a unique way to relive the early story while appreciating the visuals and sound in a way the TV screen could never provide. I will probably go with some friends who are also fans, just to see their reactions in a shared environment. I hope Crunchyroll considers adding more anniversary screenings like this, maybe even for later seasons, because seeing the original guild members on the big screen could give a new sense of scale to the series.

I like the idea of celebrating OVERLORD’s tenth anniversary, but I wish the screening included the Japanese audio with subtitles. The English dub is fine for casual viewers, but some of the nuances in the original voice acting really carry the characters’ personalities. That said, it could be a good way for new fans to experience the first episodes in a theater without having to catch up on the full series. I also wonder if the theater will give any special treats, like a small exhibit or merchandise.

I am excited about the theater event mostly because of the nostalgia. Watching Momonga prepare to log off and then suddenly become Ains Ooal Gown was a moment I will never forget. Seeing it in a theater might make me notice details in the animation I missed at home. The story itself is still very relevant even ten years later because it deals with identity, leadership, and unexpected responsibility. I think fans of MMORPG stories in general will appreciate revisiting it.

I am more excited about this because it reminds me how influential OVERLORD has been in isekai anime. Ten years is a long time for a series to remain popular, and this celebration shows that its fan base is still strong. The English dub is fine, and it might help attract new fans who have never watched it before. I hope Crunchyroll will continue Anime Nights into 2026, maybe with other classics or even newer series.

I think the timing is smart. Releasing this on a Monday evening gives people a reason to go out midweek, and it probably will not feel crowded like a weekend screening. I like that Crunchyroll is using Anime Nights for this celebration because it can spotlight other series in the future. I hope they consider doing similar screenings for later seasons or even special episodes
