Crunchyroll has been no stranger to the big screen these days, with special one-night releases arranged through Fathom Events on a regular basis. Occasionally something comes along that’s so big it gets its own independent release, like the latest Demon Slayer movie, but for the most part these things have been piped through the same company that re-releases classic films on their anniversaries or shows concerts. Anime Nights will be something different. It’s a direct partnership between Crunchyroll and the nation’s largest theater companies to showcase the latest and greatest of anime. The plan was revealed during Comic-Con last weekend: the third Monday of every month will be selected to “honor the past, elevate the present, and celebrate the future of anime.” “Anime Nights offers more than a screening – it’s a shared experience that honors the art form, invites fans into the world of creators, and brings anime to life in a theatrical setting,” said Mitchel Berger, Executive Vice President of Commerce. “Crunchyroll is committed to the theatrical experience, and there’s something powerful about watching beloved anime surrounded by friends and fellow fans in a theater. It’s a unique opportunity to connect to the anime community every month to […]

I love this idea. I’ve been going to anime conventions for years, but I’ve always wanted more local events where fans can gather regularly. Crunchyroll planning a monthly theater night is very smart. It’s something that helps bring the anime community together. I also like how they are not just picking the most popular titles. Starting with Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a nice touch—it’s fun, emotional, and not as overplayed as My Hero Academia. Showing Overlord after that gives it more variety, since that one is darker and more action-based. The fact that it’s not limited to anime films but also includes regular episodes is exciting. This way, it can introduce older or lesser-known shows to newer fans, or help people rewatch classics in a new way. I’m curious what the December screening will be. If it’s a preview of something new, that makes it feel exclusive, like you're ahead of everyone else. I’ll definitely go to the first one with some friends. Hope this becomes a long-term thing.

It sounds okay, but I need to see how it goes. I like anime, and I watch a lot on Crunchyroll, but going to a theater every month is a big commitment. It depends on what they show. Miss Kobayashi is good, but I already saw the movie at home. Overlord is old. I don’t know if I want to pay to watch TV episodes again. But I do see the value in the experience. Watching something with other fans can be fun if people are respectful. I had a good time during the Demon Slayer movie. So maybe I’ll try this once and see how the crowd is. I just hope they pick titles that are hard to watch elsewhere or give us extras, like behind-the-scenes interviews. That would make it worth the trip.

This actually made me smile. I remember watching anime alone back when I was younger, and now it’s beautiful to see it growing so much. A theater event like this every month? That would’ve felt impossible 10 years ago. I think Crunchyroll is doing something meaningful. Anime is not just entertainment. For many people like me, it’s comfort, escape, and even life lessons. Watching it with other people who understand that makes it special. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a perfect choice. It has heart, humor, and something deep about belonging. I’m so happy that this will happen in real theaters and not just in big cities. The fact that they’re working with many chains means more fans will get to join. I will absolutely attend these nights. Even if I already know the anime, it’s not about that. It’s about the people you sit with, the emotions in the room, and the shared love for the art.

Cool idea. I’ll go if they show something I haven’t seen yet. Not really into Overlord, but I like Kobayashi. Hope they include some sports anime or slice-of-life too. Not just fantasy and action.
