Summer Games Done Quick is currently going on as I am typing this (it’s playing on the living room TV) so it feels a bit weird to be talking about the NEXT GDQ event so soon. But due to SGDQ getting a late start, they’re revealing the Flame Fatales 2025 schedule at the same time. Unlike the regular event, the Fatales events consist of exclusively female gamers. And the Fatales events aren’t as gargantuan as the main GDQ events are — they do not run 24 hours, signing off at around 9 Pacific each night, and they are streamed remotely instead of hosted from a hotel ballroom. But they’re still just as fun to watch and they’re just as important. Flame Fatales benefits the Malala Fund, a non-profit that works to secure free, safe, and quality education for girls around the world. Flame Fatales will open its first day with Jet Set Radio Future, followed by Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Blue Prince (using the same “bingo” format they’re using tor today’s SGDQ playthrough), The Disney Afternoon Collection, G-Force, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, Yoku’s Island Express, and Link to the Past. I'm very happy to see the Flame Fatales event get more attention. As a small indie developer, I always enjoy when games like Blue Prince and Yoku’s Island Express are showcased. These are titles that don't always make it to the spotlight during larger gaming events. Also, the fact that it's all women speedrunners makes it even better. I think it's important to have more representation and space for different voices in gaming. Watching women break records and have fun with the games they love shows how diverse this community is. I’m especially looking forward to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—not only is it new and fresh, but I’ve been curious how speedrunners approach its style and pacing. Supporting the Malala Fund is also a strong point. We often forget how many girls around the world don’t have access to proper education. Events like this show how games can make a positive difference. I’ll be tuning in all week.

I’m glad this is happening, but I still feel like Flame Fatales should be better promoted. Not many people I talk to even know what it is. GDQ always puts the main events front and center, but these smaller Fatales marathons also deserve to trend. The game lineup looks strong though. I’m especially curious about how they’ll handle Resident Evil 7 and Crash Twinsanity, since both have some rough spots that can really test a speedrunner’s focus. I’ll definitely watch a few of these runs and maybe donate. Supporting the Malala Fund is a cause I agree with.

Reading this brought back so many memories. The Disney Afternoon Collection is pure childhood for me. I used to rush home from school to watch DuckTales and play the NES game. Knowing that someone is going to speedrun it—and for a good cause—is beautiful. Also, I like that the event ends at night instead of being nonstop. That makes it easier for me to follow after work. I’ve never watched Flame Fatales before, but this year I’m setting reminders. I also respect how they help young girls get access to education. That’s something every human should care about. Education helped me get where I am, and I want more kids—especially girls in tough situations—to get that chance too.

I’m excited for Hollow Knight and Twilight Princess. I love seeing how fast people beat games that took me days. I’ll watch after my classes each night.

This will be my first time watching a Flame Fatales event. I only started watching GDQ last year, and I was amazed by how supportive and friendly the community is. I like that this event focuses on women in gaming. I don’t usually see many women at the top in speedrunning, so it’s nice that this gives them the spotlight. I also really admire the goal of helping girls around the world get access to education. I live in a country where that’s not always easy, so I understand how important it is. I’ll be watching the Stardew Valley run for sure. It’s one of my favorite games, and I’m curious how they will speedrun such a slow-paced game.
