“Part-Time Spy” is a 2017 Korean movie, categorized as Action, Crime, Mystery, and Spy Comedy; streaming on KOCOWA+ and free with ads on Tubi TV. SUMMARY: A contract employee hoping to become permanent accepts an assignment because her boss promised her that if she accomplished the task successfully, she’ll be hired as a full-time permanent employee. ♦ I Just Want to be a Permanent Employee In “Part-Time Spy”, Jang Young-Sil is a contract worker at the National Security Agency. Her contract is up unless … A director in the NSA has been scammed by Kim Min-Suk, who could probably hold the title as “greatest scammer that ever lived”. I recently watched Part-Time Spy and honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. I’m studying film, and I like breaking movies down by genre, tone, and structure. What I noticed here is how it mixes action and comedy in a very balanced way. It reminds me of how Korean cinema often handles genre mixing better than Hollywood. Gang Ye-Won did a great job making Young-Sil relatable—she’s goofy but not useless, and her desperation for a permanent job felt very real. I was also surprised at how relevant the plot is with the voice phishing angle. These scams are happening everywhere, and turning that into the basis for a comedy was clever. Some scenes dragged a little, but overall, the movie knew what it wanted to be. I wish more people gave mid-tier Korean movies like this a chance. Not everything has to be a 9.5 masterpiece.

OMG I just watched it because of Namkoong Min! He’s soooooo good-looking. Even when he plays a scammer, he still makes me smile. LOL. I didn’t even know this movie existed before but now I want to see more of Gang Ye-Won too. I liked the comedy and how awkward Young-Sil was at her job. So relatable. Not the best movie ever but cute and fun. I wish there was a drama version!
