“The Pirates 1 and 2” are two Epic Korean Action-Adventure-Comedy films. Both movies have a fantastic cast. The first movie was released in 2014, and the standalone sequel didn’t come until 8 years later, 2022. But it was worth the wait! SUMMARY: What’s more exciting than searching for lost treasure? Finding lost treasure. ♦ The Pirates 2: The Last Royal Treasure (2022) STORYLINE: The background for “The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure” involves the fall of Goryeo. In 1388, General Yi Seong-Gye turned his army around in Wihwado. This is considered one of the most significant turning points in Korean history. The general defied the king’s orders. He had been told to push forward and continue fighting the Ming army. Instead, he turned his army back. The Goryeo dynasty lasted from 918 to 1392. After its fall, Joseon was established under Yi Seong-gye, who became King Taejo.

I watched it with my younger brother and we both had a good time. He liked the sword fights, and I liked the teamwork between the characters. My favorite was Mak-Yi. He made me laugh every time. It was easy to follow the story even if you didn’t watch the first movie. I think people who like action but don’t want something too serious will enjoy this one. The movie looked colorful and had some good fighting scenes.

I absolutely loved the mix of light comedy and dramatic moments. I watched it twice already. What really worked for me was the chemistry between Hae-Rang and Wu Mu-Chi. It felt like an equal partnership, which is rare in action movies. Also, the visuals were beautiful. The ocean scenes looked real and made me want to visit Korea’s coastlines. Even the CGI animals didn’t look too fake. This movie didn’t change my life, but it gave me a few hours of fun. I’ll probably rewatch it again with friends.

This wasn’t really for me. I don’t like action comedies very much. I prefer more serious stories, and this one felt too light for a historical setting. There were funny parts, but sometimes it felt like the actors were trying too hard. Also, the editing felt choppy. Like the scenes didn’t always connect smoothly. I know other people liked it, but I was kind of bored.

Watching this film made me think a lot about Korean history. I didn’t know about the Wihwado Retreat before, but now I want to read more about it. I think it’s cool when movies use real historical events as a base for fiction. It gives the story more meaning. I also liked how the pirates were not just bad guys—they were trying to protect the people in their own way. It gave the story more heart. Hae-Rang was a character I wish had more screen time in the second half.
