We weren’t expecting to get so much news about future Star Wars projects today, April 18, instead of 2 1/2 weeks from now, May 4. That is the day that Lucasfilm usually reserves for its biggest announcements, as it translates to “May the 4th be with you.” Surely they saved something for that date, right? Anyway. This morning during Star Wars Celebration in Japan, it was revealed shooting will begin this fall on Star Wars Starfighter, a new spinoff movie set after Episode IX that stars Ryan Gosling. To be honest we’ve heard of so many cancelled film projects by this point that we’ll be surprised if we ever see this. The one thing we can guarantee is that The Mandalorian And Grogu WILL happen, because Grogu is a proven moneymaker so why wouldn’t they. Also, much of it has been shot already. Attendees got to see work-in-progress footage. There are several TV projects in the works too. They revealed Ahsoka Season 2 is a done deal and filming will begin shortly, though they didn’t have a release window yet. We gotta get Ahsoka and Sabine off that planet! Young Jedi Adventures, for the young Jedis out there, will be […]

The announcement about Maul: Shadow Lord really caught my attention. I’ve always thought Darth Maul was underused in the movies, so giving him more time to develop in his own series is long overdue. The clip they described sounds promising. I'm also relieved Ahsoka is continuing. The pacing in Season 1 wasn’t perfect, but the characters had potential. I’m more tired of the constant Grogu content. It feels like they’re overusing him because he’s popular, not because it’s necessary for the story. I don’t mind fun characters, but I want to see new ideas. If Starfighter does happen, I hope they do something fresh with it and don’t just repeat the same type of conflicts we’ve seen before. Overall, the announcements are okay, but I need more than just names and hints before I get excited.

I’m really into these updates. I’ve followed Star Wars since I was a kid, and even though some projects don’t always work out, I like knowing there’s still interest in expanding the universe. The Maul animated series sounds like a smart way to show the darker corners of the galaxy. I think he’s more interesting now than when he first appeared. I’m happy Ahsoka is getting another season too. I liked the way they brought in the characters from Rebels and gave them more depth. Starfighter with Ryan Gosling is a surprising move. If they actually finish it, that could be a solid movie. I just want Star Wars to keep exploring different tones and characters, not just the same Jedi-Sith conflict every time. Even if some of these ideas don’t happen right away, I appreciate the effort.

I’m only here for Ahsoka. The rest of the news isn’t doing much for me. Season 1 wasn’t perfect, but the chemistry between Ahsoka and Sabine made it enjoyable. I just want them off that planet and back into real conflict. Ryan Gosling in a Star Wars movie sounds random to me. He’s a great actor, but I don’t see the connection. Also, I don’t believe in these film announcements anymore. They change their plans all the time. I do think the Maul series could be fun, depending on the animation style and writing. Not sure how I feel about him having an apprentice, though. They need to make sure it doesn’t turn into a weaker version of the Sith. As for Young Jedi Adventures, not for me, but it has its place.

Ryan Gosling joining the Star Wars universe is unexpected but not necessarily a bad thing. He has the range to carry a serious sci-fi role. If they’re setting Starfighter after Episode IX, I wonder how much of the old cast they’ll bring back, or if this is a full reset. I’m optimistic, even if many movies were cancelled before. Ahsoka Season 2 is a must. Season 1 left me with too many questions. I care more about that storyline than The Mandalorian now. I’m glad the Maul series is animated because it gives them more freedom with environments and action. Shadow Lord has a cool concept, and Maul as a crime leader is something I want to see explored fully. It seems like Lucasfilm is finally branching out a little. I hope they commit this time.

Why do they announce so much when half of it doesn’t happen? Starfighter probably won’t make it past casting. Gosling might even walk if things get messy. The only project I believe in is Mandalorian and Grogu. That’s already filming, and Disney knows that little green guy prints money. Personally, I’m bored of Grogu. It was cute in Season 1. Now it’s just old. I’m glad Ahsoka is continuing. The story left them stuck, literally and emotionally. I think Season 2 could bring more action. The Maul series could be a surprise hit if they do it right. We need more stories about the villains. Just don’t turn him into a misunderstood antihero. He’s dangerous, not soft. Also, I don’t care about Switch delays. Games release late all the time. No big deal.
