Earlier this year Sega revealed SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance, a revival of the classic jump-and-slasher series in its original pure form. Those wondering if there would be a physical edition got their answer today when Limited Run Games announced a deal with Sega to produce boxed editions for all consoles. Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch and XBox will each get their own version. Play as the legendary Shinobi Joe Musashi, master of the ninja arts. After finding your village burned to the ground and your clan turned into stone, you must set off on a quest for vengeance, ready to face […]

I grew up playing Shinobi and Gradius in the arcades, so seeing these classics get physical releases is a dream come true. Digital is convenient, sure, but nothing beats holding a game in your hands, flipping through a manual, and displaying the box on a shelf. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance staying true to its roots gives me hope that this won’t be just another modern reboot that loses the original magic. And Gradius Origins? A collection with seven titles, plus a new sequel? That’s an absolute must-buy for me. The Collector’s Edition sounds like a love letter to fans. Now the only question is: how fast will these sell out? Because I need that shadowbox.

Limited Run has a good track record, but I hope they don’t mess up the production quality. Some of their past releases have had delays and packaging issues. Also, let’s be honest—some of these physical editions feel overpriced for what you get. That said, I’ll probably still pick up the Shinobi standard edition if it’s reasonably priced. Gradius Origins is tempting, but I need to see more gameplay details before committing to a preorder. Invincible Mode is cool, but is there online leaderboards or any other modern features? If not, it might not be worth it for me.

I don’t really understand the appeal of physical releases in 2025. Most games get patches or updates after launch, and physical discs or cartridges don’t include those. Plus, everything is moving toward cloud storage anyway. I’ll just wait for the digital release in August and play it instantly. I get why people like the nostalgia factor, but I personally don’t need shelves full of game boxes when I can have my entire collection accessible anytime from my console.

Salamander 3? A new sequel? That alone makes this collection worth it! I’ve played every Gradius game ever made, and the idea of another installment has me beyond excited. The addition of training modes and rewind features will help newer players, but I hope the core challenge stays intact. Gradius is about skill, memorization, and mastering the power-up system. If they tweak that too much, it could ruin the experience. Also, the soundtrack collection in the Collector’s Edition better include high-quality remasters of the original arcade music. If it does, I’m all in.

I love these old-school games, but Collector’s Editions are usually way too expensive. I hope they offer a mid-tier edition with just the game and a few bonuses. Not everyone wants a giant box full of collectibles. That said, Gradius Origins sounds like a great deal since it includes so many games. If the price is right, I might finally get into the series.
