MMORPGs can potentially go on forever, and some have. Some are older than others though. Tibia, an MMO developed in Germany, was one of the first, launching in 1997. It’s a grampa of the genre now, still kicking after 28 years, and still offering the same four character classes: knights, paladins, sorcerers and druids. I guess NOW was the time they thought to mix it up. They’re introducing a brand-new fifth character class for the first time in their history. Enter the Monks. These classes rely martial-arts combat and unique mystical powers to defend allies and topple opponents. If you play Tibia and have concerns a fifth class could upset the balance….well, so do the developers, and they’re approaching this with the utmost care. There will be several “test periods” for the Monk class, the first starting on February 25. The Tibia community will be encouraged to put the Monk through its paces, both playing as and playing against. The feedback the developers get will shape the final version of the Monk class, which they hope to add permanently in the second quarter of 2025. “]People said the project was] too complex and too risky,” recalls the product manager at […]

Wow, a new class in Tibia? It feels like ages since I last logged in. Back then, I was still a young, carefree soul, probably still a virgin. Now I have three kids running around the house, and my old account is probably gathering dust somewhere. I wonder if I can even still log in with that ancient email address. Might be time to dust off those old memories and see if I can remember my password.

Wow, Tibia is still around? It's amazing to see a game this old not only survive but thrive. You have games that launched last year already fading into obscurity, and here's Tibia, 28 years young, getting a major update with a new class

Tibia? Wow, that takes me back! My dad used to play this game when he was younger. He'd tell me stories about his adventures, and it always sounded so exciting. It's incredible to think it's still going strong after all these years. Maybe I should try it out and see what all the fuss was about!

A new class means new builds, new strategies, and new challenges. I'm already analyzing the potential of the Monk class – its strengths, weaknesses, and synergies with other classes. I'm going to spend countless hours theorycrafting and optimizing builds during the testing phase. This is going to be a fascinating experiment

This is incredible news! I've been playing Tibia since I was a kid, and the thought of a new class after all these years is just…wow. I remember the excitement around the introduction of druids, and this feels even bigger. I can't wait to see how the Monk class plays out. Hopefully, they strike a good balance and don't completely disrupt the existing meta. Here's to another 28 years of Tibia!
