“Abroad” is a Korean movie released in 2023, categorized as Mystery, Thriller and Suspense. SUMMARY: It’s terrifying to be a stranger in a strange land when the one you love the most disappears. ♦ She Left Me? That’s not Possible! In “Abroad”, Taemin and his girlfriend, Min-ji, are South Korean tourists who arrive at an airport in Northern Minnesota, USA, very late at night. Unlike major international airports throughout the United States that still have activity any hour of the day, i.e. people moving in and out, this airport had almost nobody! Min-ji had planned out the entire vacation for them. They came to see the Northern Lights. The vacation did not begin smoothly. Taemin did not feel well and had go to the restroom. Min-ji waited patiently for him and then they both went to the rental car counter together to pick up the car she had reserved for them. Min-ji was more fluent in English so she did most of the talking. At the counter, they met a very rude and unpleasant customer service representative who told them they were too late and to come back tomorrow. Min-ji pointed out that the rental car service was guaranteed up […]

Okay, so I totally watched "Abroad" because I saw Taemin was in it, but then I was completely hooked by the story. It was so cool seeing the real Taemin's fame reflected in the film with the character sharing his name. The storyline was gripping, and I loved how they intertwined the thrill of seeing the Northern Lights with such a suspenseful plot. Lim Young-joo as Min-ji was phenomenal; her character felt so real. The twist of her disappearance was chilling, and it made me stay up late just to see how it would end. It's not just about the stars or the plot; the backdrop of the Northern Lights was breathtaking, making you wish you were there despite all the drama!

I've seen my share of films shot in exotic locations, but "Abroad" really put a different spin on it. The choice of Northern Minnesota for the setting was spot-on for the eerie, isolated feel needed for this kind of suspense. I've been to the region to see the Northern Lights myself, and while my experience was far less dramatic, the film captured the magic and the mystery of the place. The tension between Taemin and the local authorities added a layer of realism to the story. It's one thing to plan an adventure, but quite another when it turns into a nightmare. This movie just made me want to go back to Minnesota with a new appreciation for its dark, beautiful nights.

"Abroad" was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. The suspense built up masterfully from the moment they couldn't get the rental car. The interactions at the airport and with the elderly driver and his granddaughter added layers of intrigue. The plot twist with Min-ji's disappearance in the shower was unexpected and executed brilliantly. My heart was racing during those scenes at the police station, feeling Taemin's frustration and fear. The film's climax was satisfying, though I won't spoil it here. This movie is a prime example of how to keep an audience guessing until the very end.

I don't keep up with K-Pop so when the name was mentioned, I didn't know who they were talking about. But the story kept me interested from start to finish.

The part I found scary (because I kept imagining if it were me) … was being in a foreign land and not being able to speak the language and then getting accused of a crime I KNOW I didn't commit. If you're on vacation and you call the police for help, you want to be helped. NOT ACCUSED.
