“My Lawyer, Mr. Joe” (aka “Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho”) is a 2016 Korean drama series, with 20 episodes, and categorized as Legal drama, and Comedy. It is available on KOCOWA+ and Viki. It was popular enough to have a second season, “My Lawyer, Mr. Joe 2: Crime and Punishment”, released in 2019. SUMMARY: There once was a corrupt prosecutor who hit rock bottom. Then he rediscovered what it was like to be an honest lawyer. ♦ I was a Public Prosecutor – Now I’m a Lawyer for the People In “My Lawyer, Mr. Joe”, Jo Deul-Ho is a brilliant attorney who works as a prosecutor and he is married to Jang Hae-Kyung, who is a lawyer at the most prestigious law firm in South Korea, and they have a young daughter. They could have remained happily married IF … Jo Deul-Ho had not decided to be honest and become a whistle-blower. Did he think that his actions and decisions weren’t going to affect his family? Jo Deul-Ho makes a lot of bad decisions, throws his entire life away, then stumbles into doing the right thing. It's a bit too convenient for my taste. And let's not forget his wife who abandons him when things get tough – hardly a supportive partner.

This Korean drama strikes all the right points for me. Jo Deul-Ho's transformation from a corrupt prosecutor to an advocate for the innocent is inspirational. It serves as a reminder that it is never too late to do what is right, even if it means giving up everything. Lee Eun-Zo's character growth is particularly interesting: learning to stand up for what's right, even when it goes against the existing quo.

"My Lawyer, Mr. Joe" seems like a fascinating look at the Korean legal system. The show's exploration of corruption within the prosecutor's office is particularly intriguing. I'm curious to see how Jo Deul-Ho exposes the truth and how the legal system handles his accusations. While the plot might be predictable, it could offer valuable insights into the Korean justice system

Park Shin-Yang is BRILLIANT as Jo Deul-Ho, and the chemistry between him and Kang So-Ra is undeniable. This show has everything – drama, humor, romance, and social commentary. I laughed, I cried, I cheered for the underdog. And can we talk about the adorable child actor who plays Jo Deul-Ho's daughter? Heartwarming!

A 20-episode legal drama with high ratings and positive reviews? Sounds like my next weekend binge-watch! I love a good underdog story, and Jo Deul-Ho definitely fits the bill.

Not really. People often turn their life around when they get a second chance. What people don't often have the chance to do is fix what they did wrong. The message is: If you can right your wrong, you should.

That's my takeaway.
