It a a real-life murder and the story is told via a multi-voice narrative with several family members offering their perspectives. The young girl’s private life, secret diary, and social media profile were discussed publicly. When the real culprit(s) were revealed it no doubt sent shock waves through the community. As a film student, I was amazed at how This Is Not Hollywood balanced its visual storytelling with emotional depth. The cinematography in Apulia was breathtaking, and the tension built with each episode was masterful. It’s an excellent example of how to adapt real-life stories for the screen without losing authenticity.

Federica Pala was amazing, and it’s so cool that she’s still in high school while doing such big projects. Watching her performance inspired me to pursue acting. Also, I didn’t know much about Italian towns like Avetrana, but now I want to visit!

Hulu has been on a roll with its originals, and This Is Not Hollywood is no exception. The courtroom scenes and family interviews were so intense—I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. Federica Pala is definitely one to watch!

This Is Not Hollywood was a standout for me. The multi-voice narrative style was such a smart choice—it gave a layered perspective that most true crime dramas lack. Each family member's story added depth to Sarah’s life, making her feel like more than just a victim in a headline. Federica Pala delivered such a raw and haunting performance that I kept forgetting she’s still a teenager herself! I also loved the stunning visuals of Apulia, which provided this beautiful yet eerie backdrop to the story. I do wish the series had delved a bit more into the aftermath for the town and Sarah’s family, but overall, it’s a must-watch for true crime fans looking for something a little different

True crime is a genre I have a love-hate relationship with, and This Is Not Hollywood brought that tension to the forefront for me. On one hand, the series was well-acted, particularly by Federica Pala, who gave an incredibly moving performance as Sarah. The show also succeeded in highlighting how the media’s obsession with Sarah’s private life added to the tragedy of her death. However, I couldn’t help but question whether this story needed to be told as a dramatization. The public exposure of Sarah’s diary and social media felt invasive, even as a viewer. While the series raises important conversations about societal voyeurism, I’m not convinced that dramatizing real-life tragedies is the best way to spark those discussions. For true crime fans, this might be a compelling watch, but I’d approach it with caution.

Hulu subscriber for years, and This Is Not Hollywood is a great addition to their lineup. The series had me glued to my screen for all four episodes. The narrative style was unique, with each family member’s perspective adding new layers to the story. Federica Pala’s portrayal of Sarah was heartbreaking and powerful, and it’s incredible to think she’s just starting her career. The setting of Apulia was another standout—the contrast between its beauty and the tragedy of Sarah’s story made the show even more impactful. While it’s a heavy watch, I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys true crime with emotional depth

I found the depiction of Apulia to be stunningly authentic, showcasing both its beauty and its isolation. The story of Sarah Scazzi is undeniably tragic, and the show did a good job of portraying the impact her death had on her community. Federica Pala was phenomenal—she brought so much depth to Sarah’s character, making her feel real and relatable. This series isn’t just about true crime; it’s about family dynamics, societal pressures, and how tragedies can reshape entire communities. Highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates a thoughtful drama.
