FF16 Clive Rosfield coming to Tekken 8

Final Fantasy XVI (2023): Clive Rosfield is drawn into a brutal war fueled by magical Dominants and their summoned Eikons. It leans fully into cinematic, action-focused combat with a darker medieval tone. AKA Final Fantasy 16, FF16, FFXVI

Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI, a key character from the latest entry in the franchise, has officially been announced as the first DLC guest character for Tekken 8! This news dropped just as Tekken 8 won Fighting Game of the Year for 2024, marking another big moment for Bandai Namco’s flagship fighter. When Katsuhiro Harada teased that a Final Fantasy character would join the Tekken roster, fans were buzzing with speculation. The top picks? Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII and Baki Hanma. Both characters are widely requested as guest fighters because their hand-to-hand combat styles align perfectly with Tekken’s gameplay. As a brawler with a hand-to-hand combat style, Tifa seemed like a natural fit for Tekken’s gameplay. However, the reveal of Clive caught fans off guard. Much like Noctis from Final Fantasy XV, who appeared as a guest in Tekken 7, Clive is another weapon-based fighter—wielding his sword in a game primarily focused on fists and kicks. Clive Rosfield’s moveset, including summoning gods and demons, sets him apart from the rest of the Tekken roster. The trailer for Clive’s reveal showcased him fighting on Phoenix’ Gate, a location from Final Fantasy XVI. In the footage, he’s seen battling […]

Wow, Clive in Tekken 8?! That’s actually kinda awesome! I wasn’t expecting a Final Fantasy character, especially not Clive, but he definitely brings something new to the game. The whole summoning gods and transforming into Ifrit? That’s a huge flex and will make him stand out in the game. I know there’s a lot of talk about his weapon-based style, but Tekken has had weirder characters like Yoshimitsu, right? I think Clive could be a really fun, unique addition, especially with his flashy moves. Plus, he’s from one of the best games this year, so I’m here for it. Can’t wait to see what he’s like in gameplay!

I really don’t see Clive Rosfield getting much play in Tekken 8, just like what happened with Noctis in Tekken 7. The problem with characters who rely heavily on weapons and summons is that they often feel out of place in a game built around fast, precise hand-to-hand combat. Noctis was a cool idea, but no one ever really took him seriously in competitive play. His moveset was too gimmicky, and players quickly realized he didn’t quite match up to the core Tekken fighters. I’m afraid Clive will end up in the same boat—he might be fun for a few matches, but in the long run, he won’t be a go-to character for most players. Tekken’s community tends to gravitate towards the pure martial artists, and I just don’t see Clive fitting that mold. It’s a shame, because he’s an interesting character, but I think his inclusion will be more of a novelty than anything else.

Clive Rosfield in Tekken? Seriously? This feels like a step in the wrong direction. Tekken is all about skillful combat, and now they’re adding a character who fights with a sword and summons gods? What’s next, a full-on mage? I’m not even a huge fan of Noctis, and now we’re getting another weapon user? This is just pandering to Final Fantasy fans and ruining the integrity of Tekken’s classic formula. I hope they balance him well, but I’m not excited about this at all.

I’ve been playing Tekken since the 90s, and I think Clive could bring an interesting dynamic to the game. Sure, he’s not a typical Tekken character, but sometimes it’s good to shake things up. I was impressed by the trailer and how they’re keeping his moveset exciting with the summons and Ifrit transformation. I’ll admit, I’m not super familiar with Final Fantasy XVI, but I like that Tekken is mixing things up and bringing in some high-profile characters. It’s a great way to keep the game fresh.

Ugh, I can’t believe they chose Clive over Tifa! She’s the perfect fit for Tekken—she’s got the martial arts skills, the iconic character design, and she’s already a fan favorite! But nooo, instead we get another weapon-wielding Final Fantasy character who doesn’t even belong in a game like Tekken. Clive’s cool and all in his own game, but his whole moveset with summoning gods and turning into Ifrit just doesn’t mesh with the Tekken formula. It’s honestly so frustrating. I don’t get why they keep ignoring Tifa when she could’ve been the one to shake things up with her awesome fighting style. Instead, we’re stuck with another sword user who’s just going to be a gimmick, like Noctis. Seriously, how many times do we have to keep asking for Tifa?!

LOL, I’ve been reading through all the whiny posts on Tekken Reddit about Clive, and it’s honestly hilarious! Some people are acting like their world just ended because of a sword-wielding guest character. It’s like, calm down! We’ve had weird character choices before, and Tekken still managed to be a top-tier fighter. Sure, Clive isn’t the ideal pick for some, but let’s not forget, Tekken is all about throwing in random stuff that keeps things interesting. I get the frustration from Tifa fans, but seriously, it’s not the end of the world. Let’s just wait and see how Clive plays before we start throwing tantrums. It’s kind of funny how worked up people are getting over something that’s meant to be fun.

If you don’t like Clive, then just don’t play as him! It’s really that simple. Tekken has such a diverse roster, there are tons of characters to choose from, so if Clive’s weapon-based style isn’t your thing, just skip him. People seem to forget that guest characters don’t change the core of the game—Tekken is still all about the martial arts combat we all know and love. No one’s forcing you to pick Clive in every match. There are plenty of other fighters with the classic Tekken vibe, so just enjoy what works for you and leave the rest for the players who like the new additions. Simple as that.
