After being teased multiple times, the halfway point of Season One marks the show’s big Harley episode — for those who suspected she was more than she let on, you were right. However, it’s a deliberate play against type: Timm said in interviews he wanted this Harley to be a bit eccentric on the outside, when she’s chatting with Montoya and other “normies,” but dark on the inside, a side she only lets out in private. Batman is finishing up a pretty easy job — a bank robber who thinks he can bribe him — when there’s some commotion across the street that distracts him. There’s some guy in an exotic outfit walking directly into traffic while shouting nonsense. Leaving the robber tied to a pole, Bats heads to the source of the insane rambling. It’s…King Tut? From the 1960s series? Not quite. This show is going to be cancelled the moment they genderswapped Penguin and race swapped Harley, Barbara and Commissioner Gordon.

This Harley's whole "playpen" thing is definitely messed up. But hey, at least she's trying to get rid of the greedy rich guys, right? Maybe her heart's in the right place, even if her basement is full of brainwashed dudes.

t's nice to see a Batman show that can be creepy without going overboard. Like, Harley's whole torture thing is messed up, but it's not super gory or anything. I can watch it with my friends without getting nightmares. Also its weird seeing Harley to be not cheerful in her masked form and be serious on her Civilian form.

I feel bad for Renee. She finally gets asked out by a cool girl, and it turns out she's a psycho kidnapper! Dating in Gotham must be rough.

This episode was packed! We got a new villain origin, Batman and Barbara working together, and a cliffhanger ending. It felt like a mini-movie crammed into one episode. Can't wait to see where they take things next.
