Shin Hae-Sun is definitely on a roll. The most popular Korean drama she starred in was “Mr. Queen” but she has been cast as the lead female character in many more roles. The two movies recommended below were released in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Enjoy! ♦ (1) Brave Citizen (2023) GENRE: Action, Comedy, Based on webtoon (NOTE: If you love it when the bad guys gets his butt kicked, you will love “Brave Citizen”. Having watched “Citizen of a Kind”, a 2024 film that is based on a true story, I was not sure what to expect from another film titled “Brave Citizen”, based on a webcomic. But since it was Shin Hae-Sun playing the role of a strong female lead, it deserved a look-see.) STORYLINE: So Shi-Min is a contract teacher. She has 3 months to impress the school hiring officials so they can convert her from a contract to a full-time permanent teaching position. What’s the best way to do that? Simple. If you see injustice or wrongdoing or bullying or … anything that requires you to step up and be a hero … DON’T!! Hold back and don’t be a hero! Look the other way. That’s what […]

Shin Hae-Sun is such a gem! I’ve been a fan since Angel’s Last Mission: Love. Brave Citizen was such a satisfying watch for me; the justice she serves feels so empowering. But Following? I felt creeped out the entire time, and not in a good way. The story’s twisty moments were intriguing, but I struggled with how uncomfortable some scenes felt. I guess thrillers aren’t my thing!

I wasn’t sold on Following. The concept of a creepy stalker spying on a social media influencer is too close to real life for my taste. It made me super uncomfortable, and not in an enjoyable suspense way. However, Brave Citizen was such a fun and refreshing film! I loved seeing Shin Hae-Sun as a badass teacher.

I loved the suspense in Following! It’s not your typical thriller—it’s more psychological, and it really gets under your skin. That twist with the clean apartment blew my mind. However, I felt the pacing dragged in the middle. Byun Yo-Han’s character is fascinating but also frustratingly slow to develop

I watched Following because of Shin Hae-Sun, but I couldn’t fully enjoy it. The story felt too unsettling, and Koo Jung-Tae’s creepy behavior made my skin crawl. I can appreciate the acting, but it’s not a film I’d recommend unless you really enjoy dark thrillers.

Shin Hae-Sun and Byun Yo-Han were mesmerizing in Following! I loved how the movie kept shifting your perspective on who was the real danger. But some parts felt dragged out, especially when Koo Jung-Tae was ‘investigating.’ The psychological twists made up for it, though!

Shin Hae-Sun as So Shi-Min was so inspiring! I loved how the movie balanced humor with meaningful themes like bullying and self-sacrifice. Watching her stand up to injustice, especially with her boxing skills, was so satisfying. Some parts were a bit over the top, but that’s what made it fun for me. Definitely a must-watch if you’re into action-comedies

Brave Citizen was an absolute blast. I’m a sucker for vigilante justice, and seeing a teacher go full boxing champ on a bully was thrilling. The pacing felt a little uneven in some spots, but Shin Hae-Sun carried the movie like a pro. Lee Jun-Young as Han Su-Kang made such a great antagonist too!

As someone who’s read the webtoon, I think the movie did a great job capturing the essence of the story. Shin Hae-Sun gave So Shi-Min a lot of depth, making her struggles relatable. I did feel like some side characters weren’t fleshed out enough, but the main storyline more than made up for it.

Shin Hae-Sun is so versatile! I loved her in Mr. Queen, and Brave Citizen just added to my admiration. Her action scenes were awesome! Following? Not as much. The pacing dragged for me, and Koo Jung-Tae’s creepiness felt one-dimensional at times
