Something wild just came out of the mouth of director Dan Trachtenberg, the man currently working on the next Predator film. This will be the follow-up to Prey, which Trachtenberg also directed and is regarded as the film that revitalized the franchise. Prey took chances by changing the setting to the past, focusing on a Native American warrior who must find a way to take out the deadliest hunter species in the known universe AND a colony of French settlers at the same time. Those chances took off and Prey ranks in the top three of fans’ favorite Predator films. So when crafting Predator: Badlands, Trachtenberg wants to take similar leaps and go places no one’s gone. This time that means the main character won’t be a human battling the Predator, but the Predator itself! “The creature is front and center, leading the charge,” Trachtenberg said to Empire in an interview. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.” “[We desired to] find another essential piece of cinema that does what Prey did spiritually—pushing the franchise’s boundaries, letting us root […]

A hero Predator? This throws everything I thought I knew about the franchise out the window. Don't get me wrong, I dug Prey. Loved seeing a badass Native warrior take down that alien hunter. But a Predator as the good guy? I dunno. Part of the thrill is the fear, the suspense of humans being stalked by this terrifying creature. But maybe Trachtenberg has something up his sleeve. Maybe there's a bigger threat out there, one that even a Predator needs help fighting. Or maybe this Predator is some kind of outcast, hunted by its own kind. Either way, color me intrigued. This could be a disaster, or it could be a total game-changer for the Predator universe

Okay, hold up. Elle Fanning being in this movie is awesome on its own. But playing MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER? This is getting wild! Is she gonna be like a Ripley-esque character, facing off against the Predator? Or maybe she's working with it somehow? The whole "multiple character" thing is seriously cryptic. It makes me wonder if the Predator itself is somehow linked to these characters. Maybe it can shapeshift or something? This movie is giving me serious "wait, what?" vibes, and honestly, I love it. Trachtenberg is clearly not afraid to take risks, and that's what makes the Predator franchise so much fun.

Predator as the hero? You son of a gun, Trachtenberg! This is actually kind of genius. We've seen humans fight Predators for decades. Now, let's see it from the other side! Imagine the Predator facing off against some even deadlier foe, some monster that makes Xenomorphs look cuddly. That'd be epic!

Predator use its tech and skills for good instead of just hunting humans? That's a fresh take I can get behind. Sure, it might be weird rooting for the creature that used to scare the pants off us, but hey, good storytelling can make you root for anyone. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

This sounds freaking awesome! A Predator hero, Elle Fanning in a double role... come on, how can you not be pumped for this? But seriously, no release window? That's just cruel. Now I gotta wait in agonizing anticipation for whenever this movie drops. Trachtenberg better deliver after all this hype. But hey, at least the wait gives us more time to come up with crazy theories about the plot. Is there a Predator civil war brewing? Are there different "tribes" of Predators with varying ideologies? The possibilities are endless!

By setting the story on an alien planet, Trachtenberg is opening up a whole new world of possibilities. We could encounter strange, exotic creatures, advanced civilizations, or even other Predator species. This alien setting could amplify the Predator's otherness, making its journey and struggles even more compelling. It's a chance to explore the vastness of the universe and the Predator's place within it.

This film could offer a glimpse into the Predator's society, their customs, and their philosophy. Are they a solitary species or do they operate in clans? What are their motivations for hunting? Are there different factions within their society, each with their own beliefs and values? By exploring these questions, we can gain a deeper understanding of the Predator and its place in the universe.

This film is a bold experiment in storytelling, pushing the boundaries of the genre and challenging our expectations. By making the Predator the hero, Trachtenberg is taking a significant risk, but it's a risk that could pay off big time. If done well, this could be a groundbreaking film that redefines the Predator franchise.
