Todd McIntosh is a veteran make-up artist of the entertainment industry who has worked on classic horror films of the 80’s like April Fool’s Day and supernatural TV favorites like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, among many more. PopGeeks had the opportunity to discuss some of the highlights of his 40+ year film and tv career and even get some make-up tips for the Halloween season. You can view the video version of the conversation here: Adam Pope: How did you get fascinated with movie make-up and decide to pursue that as a career? Todd McIntosh: Well, that goes back a long way. When I was about seven years old, there was a daytime soap opera called Dark Shadows and I was absolutely brain fried by all the witches and the werewolves and vampires. Of course, the vampire was the lead. But not only that, the absolutely beautiful Angelique, the stately woman that ran Colinwood. All of those together fascinated me, and I realized you could change people’s looks. That’s what my parents explained to me. That sparked a fire that never stopped. I was using my mother’s eyebrow pencil to draw in lines at 6. But when I got to […] (read full article...)

He worked on Buffy and Masters of the Universe! That Skeletor design is iconic. I can't believe he had to fight to make it look good, not like Casper the Friendly Ghost, haha. I gotta try that fake blood recipe with Karo syrup - sounds way better than the store-bought stuff.

Man, this interview with Todd McIntosh brought back memories! April Fool's Day was one of my first horror movies, and I had no idea he worked on that. It's crazy how much practical effects have changed since then. Sounds like Buffy was a wild ride filming 15 hours a day - no wonder they called it "Buffy the Weekend Slayer." I gotta check out that Juliet Landau podcast he was on - gotta hear all the behind-the-scenes Buffy goodness

This is so inspiring! Todd McIntosh started practicing makeup effects at 12 years old? That's dedication! Love that he learned from a legend like Mike Westmore. The bit about finding the right colors for fake blood is fascinating - who knew green and yellow made things look more realistic? Maybe I should take a makeup effects class and see if I have a knack for it. Thanks for the tips, Todd!

Huh, never realized how much work goes into makeup for movies and TV shows. This interview with Todd McIntosh was interesting! Sounds like Masters of the Universe was a bit chaotic - can't imagine dealing with a cranky actor in heavy makeup! And 15-hour days on Buffy? Those actors and crew deserve major props. I might actually appreciate those special effects a little more now.

This interview with Todd McIntosh was informative! Interesting to hear about the challenges of working with prosthetics and keeping actors comfortable. Sounds like good communication and adaptability are key in this business. I like his tip about using Karo syrup for fake blood - always good to have a cheap, easy recipe on hand. Maybe for a costume party or a prank on the grandkids!
