Lightbulb Film Distribution has announced after a successful run on cinema screens over the Atlantic, the British comedy film Hundreds Of Beavers will be released globally via digital distribution next Monday. The idea of it is rather simple: there’s this drunken applejack salesman wandering around the woods. He stumbles upon a community of beavers, of which there’s a lot – you might even say hundreds. But the beavers don’t like him, and start immediately playing pranks on him. That’s the premise for what amounts to dozens of sight gags and jokes. There aren’t many movies like this. The film contains no dialogue and is entirely in black and white, intentionally styled like an old 1930s slapstick film. And the title is no lie. You get what you pay for — hundreds of beavers. I love slapstick humor, and the idea of a drunken salesman fumbling around with a community of prankster beavers has me cracking up already. It's like a beaver-themed slapstick party! It's refreshing to see something so different from the usual CGI-laden blockbusters. Plus, the fact that it premiered at Fantastic Fest practically guarantees it'll be wonderfully weird. No Will Forte? That's a bummer, but hopefully, the unknown actors can pull off that classic comedic timing. Not really my cup of tea. I get the slapstick angle, but feels a bit one-note. Sight gags can be funny, sure, but will it hold up for a whole movie? And with no dialogue, there's a risk it might just feel repetitive. Plus, the whole "hundreds of beavers" thing sounds a bit...cheap? They couldn't get CGI beavers.
