Skybound Tabletop Announces Contrabanter

Skybound Tabletop has announced the retail release of Contrabanter, something they call a “word-smuggling game.” It’s a tabletop party game for up to fifteen players. Players divide into teams. During each round, cards are drawn with three random words on them. The goal of each team is to casually work those words into conversation and get the other team to say them…and depending on the word, finding a natural undetectable method may not be easy! There are ways to throw them off the scent, though. Each team is given three chances to guess the opposing team’s secret words. If you throw some other, unrelated words into your conversation, the type that might stick out more…they just might fall for it. But of course they could do the same to you. If one team guesses the word or words of another team, they get to “confiscate” that word, which is added to their score. Players can also earn points for successfully getting the other team to say their secret words. When

The idea of "smuggling" words into conversations is clever and adds a fun layer of strategy. I can already imagine the hilarious situations that will arise as players try to sneak their words in without getting caught. Plus, with up to fifteen players, it's perfect for large gatherings. I think this game would be a fantastic addition to my next game night. The price point is also very reasonable for all the content you get. Kudos to Skybound Tabletop for coming up with such a unique game!

Contrabanter seems intriguing, but I wonder how balanced the game mechanics are. Introducing unrelated words to throw off the opposing team sounds fun in theory, but it might lead to confusion and detract from the main objective. Also, with larger groups, managing the conversation flow could become chaotic. However, I do appreciate that it encourages creativity and quick thinking. I’d be interested to see how it plays out in practice. It might be one of those games where the right group of people can make it a memorable experience, but it could also fall flat if not executed well.
