“Night of the Assassin” (aka “The Assassin”) is a 2023 Korean drama movie, categorized as Action, Costume and Period, and Historical Fiction. ♦ Many Have Tried and Many Have Died During the Joseon Era, many slaves and commoners could not read or write. They were entertained by listening to storytellers. “Night of the Assassin” is told by a narrator who knew Joseon’s greatest assassin up close and personal. To set the stage for the tale of Inan (or Yi Nan), one must understand the current state of the kingdom of Joseon. “A series of wars had left the country devastated. The law no longer served the people and those in power battled for power amidst the chaos. They did not hesitate to kill their rivals for their goals, hiring the country’s best assassins, some of whom were truly extraordinary.” Inan (or Yi Nan) had been paid to kill a nobleman. What was the reason? Assassins never ask why. Another thing assassins never do is … bargain. So it does no

Sounds a bit like that old Clint Eastwood flick "Pale Rider," you know, the one where a mysterious gunslinger rolls into town to help out the downtrodden? Except with swords instead of six-shooters. And way more stylish clothes, I bet.

I love movies where the protagonist is an almost mythic figure, and Inan (or Yi Nan) seems to fit that bill perfectly. The sword-fighting scenes, especially the one where he takes out three men with one blow, must be incredible to watch. The blend of action and emotional moments, like when he befriends the widow and her son, adds a nice touch of humanity to the chaos. Plus, the fact that he continues to fight despite knowing he's dying adds a poignant layer to his character. I can't wait to see how he handles the thugs and corrupt officials. Sounds like a movie that's definitely worth the watch!

Learning about Korean history through movies is a fun way to spend an evening. This period sounds brutal - wars, no justice, people resorting to assassins to settle scores. Makes me wonder how much of it is true? Gotta do some digging online to see what history buffs are saying about the movie's accuracy.

This Korean assassin movie reminds me of that Japanese movie "Yojimbo" with Toshiro Mifune. A lone warrior who cleans up a corrupt town. There's a certain code of honor among assassins, you know, even if their profession is a little... unorthodox. I wonder if there are any hidden references to Yojimbo in "Night of the Assassin"? Time to do a double feature night!

Shin-Hyun Joon as a legendary assassin? This is a must-watch for any fan of Korean dramas! The dude was awesome in "Moorim School." I love seeing Korean historical dramas mix action with romance and humor. This "Night of the Assassin" sounds like it ticks all the boxes.

There's something inherently romantic about a hardened assassin finding solace and a sense of belonging with a widow and her son. It sounds like their bond provides a counterbalance to the violence and chaos of the rest of the movie. The fact that Inan protects them and ultimately avenges the boy's death shows a depth of feeling and commitment that's quite touching. I'm eager to see how their relationship evolves amidst all the action and danger.

Night of the Assassin was pure adrenaline! Shin-Hyun Joon absolutely killed it (pun intended) as the legendary Inan. The fight scenes were insane, especially the one-man-army takedown at the beginning. It wasn't super realistic, but who cares? It looked awesome! The choreography was smooth, the swordplay was brutal, and the whole thing had a cool balletic vibe. Maybe not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for an action fix, this movie delivers.
