John Wick, The Equalizer, The Bride from Kill Bill? They ain’t got nothing on The G. The new film from writer-director-producer, Karl R. Hearne is out to prove that the “tough old broads” are more than capable of violently dishing out revenge to the people that cruelly cross them. The G delivers this and more as an engaging thriller with an unlikely star. The G is premiering in UK and Irish theaters this month, leading me to believe that it would be a mostly European cast and setting. So imagine my surprise when there was not an accent to be found in the film. What this Canadian production does have however, is a unique and unexpected premise that put me on edge. The elevator pitch is, “A mysterious older woman seeks revenge on the corrupt legal guardian who destroyed her life”, but the details are much more upsetting. The legal guardian grift in this film involves shady characters being in cahoots with corrupt doctors. They then deem an elderly individual

"John Wick" with a grandma? Sign me up! This whole "tough old broads" kicking butt thing is awesome. I gotta admit though, 10 minutes of action seems a little light. Hopefully, it packs a punch in those scenes! Still, the whole legal guardian grift angle sounds messed up. Good on this grandma for fighting back!

Hold on, a slow-burn revenge story with a mysterious grandma? Intriguing! This "The G" sounds like my kind of movie. I love how they built up her backstory in bits and pieces. Plus, a forbidden romance for the older folks? That's heartwarming and unexpected! This might be a tearjerker AND an action flick? Now that's a combo I gotta see.

This whole elder abuse scam is terrifying! It's great that this movie highlights the issue. Maybe it'll spark some conversations about protecting vulnerable people. And hey, if a badass grandma movie can raise awareness, that's pretty awesome.

This whole revenge plot against a corrupt guardian reminds me of that documentary I saw, "I Care A Lot". Both films seem to tackle the dark side of elder care. But "The G" sounds way more action-packed! Also, the romance between the older characters is sweet. There needs to be more movies that normalize love stories for mature audiences.

I have to say, "The G" is a revelation in the revenge genre. The nuanced portrayal of an older protagonist seeking justice is both refreshing and deeply engaging. Dale Dickey's performance is nothing short of a masterclass in subtle intensity. The film's slow-burn approach, combined with its well-crafted narrative, allows the tension to build methodically, making the final act immensely satisfying. Karl R. Hearne's direction ensures that every moment serves a purpose, culminating in a climax that is as emotionally rewarding as it is thrilling. This is a must-watch for anyone looking for a sophisticated take on revenge films.
