Dragon Quest Builders Now Available On Steam

<p>Until today, there was no PC version of Dragon Quest Builders. Square Enix’s game, which is a hybrid of Minecraft’s building mechanics and Dragon Quest’s Toriyama universe, launched exclusively on consoles and mobile devices eight years ago. While the sequel DID make its way to PC, the original never did.</p>

I enjoyed the demo; it brought back memories of Dark Cloud 1 and 2 on the PS2. This differs from Minecraft in that it features questlines, NPCs, and an overall RPG plot. It's more than just a sandbox game like Minecraft. They were able to secure a presale by releasing an excellent demo. I long for the demo days. I wish more film studios will revert to that format. Try the demo if you haven't already; you might be surprised.

It saddens me that Square Enix's lackluster marketing is keeping this game from selling as well as it could. Surprisingly few people even know it exists. This explains why other recent DQ games have not been localized: SE will view it as just another poorly received western localization and become even less eager to localize additional DQ titles in the future. What an amazing game. New releases in KH and the main FF franchises are widely known due to the excessive amount of marketing that goes into those series. They don't even spend half that much on marketing for a DQ game. Sad, really. If they did, more people would notice.

The only thing I didn't like about this game were the incredibly annoying ghosts that stalk you at night and can teleport into your base despite having obsidian walls, a moat surrounding it, additional layers of walls outside it, and those pushy blocks that deflect monsters several tiles away.

In all honesty, this game's demo is the greatest yet. Extensive, comprehensive explanations are offered, and you are free to tour neighboring islands or engage in other activities. I had been looking forward to this game for about a year. I first played the demo on my PS4 because I have a Japanese account. The multiplayer is clearly the only disappointment. Don't get me wrong, I could play this alone for hours, but gathering and building without the assistance of NPCs would become tedious. I'll still get a copy in either situation.
