Forspoken Delayed For The Millionth Time
I confess that I’ve spent most of 2022 up to this point looking for a PS5 to buy, and the main motive was Square Enix’s Forspoken. I found the game’s concept and main character pretty darn interesting and wanted the ability to play it Day 1, but unfortunately, it would not be available on last-gen consoles and I would have to find a PS5 first. Given the scarcity of that console that continues to this day, it seemed unlikely I would meet that goal.
Then two things happened: I finally found a PS5, and Forspoken got delayed.
And I thought, “okay, great! Now I can play it on launch day.” Then it got delayed again.
So…I suppose of all the ways it could have turned out, this is preferable to the alternative. And If YOU don’t have a next-gen console yet, you still have plenty of time. The new release date is January 24, 2023, but at this point I’ll believe it when it’s on store shelves.
The reason for the delay this time is an odd one: developer Luminous Productions says the decision was “a result of ongoing discussions with key partners.” That doesn’t imply any development problems or new game-breaking bugs. It sounds more like they’re sitting on it until they have a free release month that isn’t crammed with competing titles…though this is just speculation.
Forspoken is about Frey Holland, a smart-mouthed stereotypical New Yorker who falls into a portal and wakes up in a fantasy realm, with a twisty sentient weird thing attached to her arm. The thing (who she names “Cuff”) tells her they can save his world if they work together…and so they do. Cuff gives Frey amazing powers and she uses them to take down the corrupt ruling order of Athia.
Forspoken will be out….whenever it’s out.

Keep in mind that the primary character is a real actress, not some computer-generated creation. It was demanding for her to perform numerous action scenes and cut scenes. It’s like a movie, and we all know how long movies these days take to make. Before they want to distribute it, I’m sure they’ll just keep polishing it. A pandemic also contributed to additional delays.

This game needs to be ready when it’s ready, please.
I wish they would take their time and do it correctly.
Games that are completed quickly often feel incomplete.
Look at the remake of Resident Evil 3.
People were upset with the outcome because they game was rushed so much.

I concur with the initial delay because the IGN demo did not look well. But I’ve only ever seen one awful one. Furthermore, IGN probably wasn’t even supposed to post it because they quickly removed it. Except in cases where it violated some sort of NDA, they would not have been compelled to do that. The game appears to be functioning properly in every video on the luminous YouTube page. Sony does not want to provide their followers with a broken game. Although they don’t love it that much, it had to be done for quality because there was so much anticipation.
