Flathead Launches On Steam

Horror game publisher DreadXP has teamed up with developer Tim Oxton, AKA “oxblud,” to deliver a scary game of a different variety: FLATHEAD. We guarantee you haven’t seen a horror title like this one before.

You’re imprisoned somewhere, trapped in some kind of diabolical experiment. The only way out is to make bets. Placed in front of a slot machine, you must select a number from a keypad and bet whether the random number the display generates will be over or under that number. Getting lucky several times in a row will lead to other games of chance, but you can never be sure you’ll win — or that you’ll escape. Make a bad bet and the monsters will come for you.

In a sea of 30 to 40 hour games that demand 100% of your time, Flathead is one of the few that understands you’ve got a life beyond it. Each playthrough is just 30 minutes long at the most. But each time you play, you’ll learn a bit more about the lore of the game and where, exactly, it takes place.

  • Quick sessions with lots of replayability
  • Strategically use the tools at your disposal to slow the approaching terror
  • Earn and bank points to gain your freedom
  • High risk, high reward. Let it ride and gain multipliers to increase your winnings
  • Try your luck with the wheel of fate
  • Make your own luck to increase your odds and your doom
  • Unsettling atmosphere with growing tension
  • Gritty analog horror aesthetic
FLATHEAD is available now on Steam, and it’s super-cheap: the game is just $1.99. And that’s not a sale price — it’s the normal price. How nice of them…

Whoa, a horror game based on gambling? That's a totally unique concept! Thirty minutes per playthrough sounds perfect for someone like me who doesn't have hours to dedicate to gaming at a time. The "learn a bit more about the lore each time" aspect is really intriguing, especially considering the short play sessions. It makes me wonder how deep the story could possibly be. The price tag of $1.99 is practically stealing it! I'm definitely sold on checking this out. Who knew placing bets could be so terrifying?

This Flathead game sounds... interesting. I'm not usually one for horror, but the whole "gambling for your life" thing has me curious. Thirty-minute sessions are great for dipping my toes in without a huge time commitment. Plus, the price is unbeatable! I might have to give it a try just to see what kind of horror they can create with a simple concept like over/under. Maybe I can even stomach some scares for a bit of lore hunting.

Ooh, a horror game based on chance? That's a creepy concept, but hold on a sec... indie? Don't get me wrong, I love a good scare, but I crave the full-blown horror experience. We're talking photorealistic environments, jump scares that make you leap out of your seat, and a narrative that chills you to the bone. Thirty minutes just isn't enough time to build real dread, you know? Plus, where's the atmospheric soundtrack and the disturbing sound design that really gets under your skin? A buck ninety-nine is a steal, but I'm willing to pay more for a horror game that's truly terrifying. Lore is important, sure, but I need it delivered with top-notch voice acting and a story that unfolds organically through gameplay. Maybe Flathead is good for a quick scare, but I'll be waiting for the next AAA horror title that promises a night of sleepless nights.
