Last week Games Done Quick organized another Flame Fatales event: the summer marathon for the Frame Fatales, a group of female video game speedrunners. The event ran from Sunday, August 13 through Saturday, August 20, and a lot of cool stunts and glitches were performed.
But the real purpose of the Flame (and Frost) Fatales runs is to raise money for Malala Fund, a non-profit organization devoted to the education of young girls worldwide (which is harder to get in some countries than others). Though it’s a quieter event than GDQ’s summer and winter marathons, and doesn’t run for 24 hours a day, it’s no slouch either — this year’s Flame Fatales raised over a hundred thousand bucks.

The next speedrun from Frame Fatales will of course be Frost Fatales next winter, from March 3-10, 2024. The last few marathons have been all about Malala Fund, but next time they’ll be supporting the National Women’s Law Center, a non-profit that works to advocate for women’s and LGBTQ rights through litigation, policy, and culture change initiatives.
