Five More Games Announced For Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo just now revealed five titles they’ll be adding to the Nintendo Switch Online service next week. Observe that if any of them were noteworthy, we would have put their names in the headline.

Alas, we’re getting down to the crumbs of the SNES library. For a third party to allow their game on this service, it can’t be something that’s valuable enough to sell on its own. Don’t count on a Street Fighter or a Castlevania to show up here. A monkey named Spanky, however — that can be done.

All snickering about the name aside, Spanky’s Quest is not a bad game. Here, I’ll let Jirard tell you about it:

Most of the added SNES games this month are obscure titles from early in the console’s life. Super Baseball Simulator 1000 is here, aka the VidPro card every 90s kid skipped over when they were browsing the Toys R Us video games aisle. This game did not opt for an official MLB license or any pro’s likeness, hence why it can still be shared here (none of Nintendo‘s own Griffey games are ever coming back).

The caveman platformer Joe & Mac will also be added soon, only Nintendo’s calling it “Caveman Ninja” for some reason. Then there’s the Match 3 puzzler Magical Drop 2 to round out the SNES lineup. One solitary NES game will be added, but it’s an import: Ninja JaJaMaru-kun.

None of these are EarthBound so the Internet is complaining en masse again. If they gave you EarthBound, though, what would be left? Then you wouldn’t care about them anymore. They need that carrot on the stick to keep you engaged! Count on EarthBound to be added one month before the Switch 2 is released. As for the above five games, they’re coming May 26.
