Warner Bros. has officially begun shooting Wonder Woman 2! They’re not wasting any time getting a sequel to their one proven superhero-movie success out the door. Patty Jenkins is back as director, and with a well-deserved pay bump. Now she’s releasing the first images from the set of Wonder Woman 2.
The first public image of Gal Gadot in the sequel. Looks the same. When you’re an immortal demigod you don’t feel the need to change your wardrobe much.
They said Diana would be appearing in a different portion of history, and we now know when. Even if the movie’s official title hadn’t already been revealed as Wonder Woman 1984, we would’ve been able to guess from this shot of Wondy staring at a stack of CRTs displaying rad flourescent graphics. You can just hear the warbly synth. This decade’s aesthetic will always be cool.
It’s this next image that has everyone scratching their heads….
So, remember Steve Trevor, the brave soldier who fought alongside Diana and, more importantly, died during World War I? He’s inexplicably strolling around a 1980s mall in high tops. What’s going on here?
The prevailing theory is that the makers of Wonder Woman 2 are pulling a similar stunt to what the makers of the Lynda Carter TV show did. Season 1 was based in the 1940s and had Diana fighting Nazis in World War II. Seasons 2 and 3 took place in the present day (which was the late 70s). All three seasons had Steve Trevor as a character, played by the same actor….and they handwaved this by explaining that the modern-day version was Steve Trevor Jr, the original Steve’s kid.
So would this guy be Steve’s grandson? We’ll find out soon enough. Wonder Woman 2, AKA Wonder Woman 1984, is coming out November 1, 2019.
