The latest chapter in the Fate/Grand Order series has crossed over onto American shores. Funimation has the rights and is streaming the first episode exclusively on their streaming platform, FunimationNow.
This latest one goes by the mouthful title of Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia. Funi’s official description reads thusly:
The Fate/Grand Order series has many Singularities: Fuyuki, Orleans, Septum, Okeanos, London, E Pluribus Enum, Camelot, and lastly Babylonia. Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia is the seventh Singularity of the popular mobile game and takes place in the ancient land of Mesopotamia. Fujimaru and Mash are sent back in time to a land ruled by the wise King Gilgamesh.
Have a few questions? I know I do. Funimation swears that Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia is a great starting point for anyone new to the series, but after reading that paragraph I’m skeptical. Fortunately, Funi also provides this primer to the series from their own website….
At its core, the Fate franchise centers on Heroic Spirits, the spirits of historical and literary heroes who did great things in their lives and are revered for those incredible deeds. These spirits can be summoned through the power of a Holy Grail as Servants, beings who fight each other, usually under the orders of a Master, in hopes of obtaining the Holy Grail and having their wish granted.
As the page explains, the Heroic Spirits fall under seven classes — Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, or Berserker — and a Master may only be able to summon one or two types depending on their skills. The page goes on to describe the main plot, which involves the aforementioned Singularities (disruptions in time) and an organization called Chaldea Security that protects mankind.
We would suggest reading before diving into Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia. The first episode is subtitled and streaming on FunimationNow.
