Last October, a fan-produced remake of Metal Gear Solid was announced. Called Shadow Moses, it was to be created in Unreal Engine 4, and was teased with this debut trailer. We haven’t heard much about it since, but the dream ended yesterday when this note appeared on the Shadow Moses Facebook page:
We have an important announcement to make today:
We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control.
We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received.
Shadow Moses team.
They have not confirmed if Konami had any invovement in the shutdown or put any pressure upon them, but it seems obvious. Now the big question is…..WHICH ONE OF YOU SQUEALED??
We in the media loudly report on fan remakes of beloved corporate properties all the time; the expectation is you will all keep those projects a secret so that Konami and Square and all those other huge guys don’t find out and shut the work down. Clearly someone in this crowd of readers can’t be trusted. We don’t know who it is yet, but we’ll find the rat.
Despite the strict enforcement of their trademarks, Konami has no plans to remake Metal Gear Solid whatsoever. The best you can do is a Gamecube or Wii and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, which was a remake done in the PS2 era.
