When you call your psychological thriller “Failure!”, with an exclamation point no less, are you setting yourself up for one? Guess we’ll find out when director Alex Kahuam debuts his new film at this year’s FrightFest next month.
Main character James owes a lot to the bank. He hasn’t paid and they’re fed up. They give him an ultimatum: in one hour, they seize everything…UNLESS he assassinates someone for them. What kind of bank is this? We don’t know, but there’s more than one character after James, and as more people invade his house and call his phone, he finds his sanity unraveling. The entire film was shot as one unbroken 87-minute take…the ultimate challenge for any actor.
Ted Raimi (The Quarry, Ash v Evil Dead, Creepshow) stars as James, alongside Merrick McCartha (Senior Year), Melissa Diaz (Ruthless), John Paul Medrano (Seven Days), Daniel Kuhlman (Voodoo MacBeth) and Noel Douglas Orput. Kahuam and Raimi produced Failure! along with Marco De Molina, Kayli Fortun and Jose D. Rodriguez via Kahuam’s Promotora NAE and De Molina’s Spacebrain Entertainment.
“Insanely excited to show British audiences this film, I really am, as I’m mostly known to my fans as ‘the horror guy’,” says Raimi. “I’m proud of that, but this movie is going to show a different side of me that the fans will really dig. Also, it’s at FrightFest, the biggest horror and thriller event in the UK, my kind of moviegoers!”
Failure! premieres at FrightFest August 28. Further distribuition has yet to be announced.
