Sonic the Hedgehog has been a mainstay of comic books almost as long as he’s been in video games. His first American comic came out in early 1993, and he hasn’t slowed down since then. Many writers have cooked up monthly adventures for the Blur Blur over the decades, and a new one is about to take the saddle.
This time, it’s an already familiar face. Evan Stanley has served as artist on many issues of IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic; soon he will be writing dialogue and plot for them as well.
“Sonic the Hedgehog comics have been a constant source of joy and inspiration for me for well over ten years, and the truth is, this opportunity is a dream I didn’t believe could come true,” says Stanley. “The world of Sonic has a truly amazing creative legacy, and I’ve always pushed myself to make my contributions as meaningful and worthwhile as they can be — and that’s more important than ever now. I hope I can deepen the world of IDW’s Sonic The Hedgehog comics, exploring new places and characters while continuing to deliver exciting adventures about Sonic and his friends!”
If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to the previous writer, Ian Flynn, don’t despair — he’s still around. In fact he’s now working on a spinoff comic, Sonic: Bad Guys, with artist Jack Lawrence.
Even Stanley’s first issue of Sonic the Hedgehog will be #33, due out this summer, along with the first issue of Sonic: Bad Guys.
