Peter Moore has revealed that EA are certain to return to NCAA Football at some point in the near future, explaining that the franchise was an important part of their portfolio that they know has plenty of demand from fans.
The series was effectively shut down by the publisher in 2013. This came about after the publisher and the NCAA was sued by a group of college athletes who felt that their likeness and attributes were being used unfairly without any form of compensation. A $60 sentiment was agreed between all parties recently, yet there are still a number of lawsuits that are ongoing that mean that it is difficult for the publisher to speak about the franchise in public.
That hasn’t stopped EA from looking to bring back the series though and Peter Moore explained that he was positive that it would return eventually.
“NCAA Football became the lightning rod for bigger issues regarding college athletes getting paid for their performance, not only in football but all college sports,” said Moore. ” It was a sad day when we realized, ‘We are in the sights of a number of lawsuits.’ A number of athletes which were all combined eventually into one singular suit and said, ‘That’s me.’ When your lawyers’ fees are more than the revenue you can expect to get in.”
“It was an unclear future for us. It was a really sad day and we said, ‘We just can’t do this anymore.’ And one day I know we’ll be back.”
