DOOM: Open Beta and New Content Revealed

Bethesda Softworks has officially announced some new details for the upcoming return of the DOOM franchise today, including DOOM’s Open Beta, which is set to run from April 15-17. Players who want a chance to try the game early will not need a beta code. They only have to log on to the platform of their choice and download access Team Deathmatch and Warpath on the Heatwave and Infernal Maps.

The maps for the DOOM Open Beta are just a taste of what’s in store for players for the game at launch next month. The other news is that Bethesda will be offering more content for the game throughout the year. The free content updates will be through the SnapMap and multiplayer features in the game.

The SnapMap, which allows users to create, share and play their own maps created fo rthe game, will receive new content updates later on. These updates will include map modules, props and objects, additional features and fuctionality, AI enhancements, editing tool enhancements and more. The content updates for multiplayer will be new game modes. According to Bethesda, the planned updates will free-to-use and play.

In addition, Bethesda also revealed plans for three premium multiplayer DLC packs that will be released post-launch. These DLC packs will feature new maps, hack modules, playable demons, weapons and more. Here’s lineup for the first DLC pack to be released this summer:

  • Three new maps
  • One new weapon
  • One new playable demon
  • One new armor set
  • One new piece of equipment
  • New hack modules and taunts
  • New customization colors and patterns

Each premium DLC pack is going to cost about $14.99, or players can purchase the DOOM Season Pass to get the DLC at a discounted rate. DOOM arrives on May 13 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
