DC Deck Building Game: Arkham Asylum

DC Deck Building Game: Arkham Asylum Goes Live on Kickstarter

Cryptozoic is beefing up its DC Deck Building Game by letting the asylum loose. The new Arkham Asylum deck has been announced for 2025 and the crowdfunding campaign is active as of today.

“The DC Deck-Building Game community is at the center of what we do, and we can’t wait to spend another 30 days sharing our love of the DC universe and the series of games,” says Shahriar Fouladi, Cryptozoic’s VP of Product Development & Marketing. “We chose Arkham Asylum as the theme of the latest base set because, like most fans, we love Batman’s Rogues Gallery and we wanted to design a game that puts them front and center. We are also very excited about the new Travel Box, which may be the single coolest game accessory we’ve ever created, and the introduction of 2DZ acrylic standees. We have lots of incredible stretch goals and surprises planned for fans!”

Here’s what you get: The Arkham Asylum expansion adds 200 standard cards themed around Batman’s enemies, nine oversized character cards, and 40+ tokens. The box also includes a rulebook and two “multiverse dividers” so you don’t get your universes mixed up.

But the campaign is about more than just the expansion itself. You can get one of two new themed travel boxes through it, which house 500 cards and a play mat, in Batman or The Joker styles (Joker is exclusive to the campaign). Cryptozoic is also using it to introduce their new line of 2DZ acrylic standees, plastic pop-ups of DC superheroes that can be used in the game. The line will launch with four packs, each containing three or four standees, and the available characters will include Batman, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Green Arrow and Darkseid.

That’s not all…Cryptozoic is introducing no less than FIVE expansion packs to other areas of the DC Deck-Building Game. They include Crisis Expansion Pack 5: Death Metal, Crossover Pack 11: Dark Knights Rising, Rebirth One-Shot Pack 3, and Super Friends. The fifth expansion will be revealed later in the campaign.

The pledge tiers are various jumbles of all these items, the cheapest coming in at $75 with Arkham Asylum and Dark Knights Rising. With each higher tier, you get more –the heaviest tier is $260 and seemingly the only one that includes the 2DZ standees. But there’s clearly a demand — the campaign has been open just hours, but it’s already blown past its initial goal. You have until October 10 to invite the Asylum into your home.

I've been collecting the DC deck-building game for years, and this is a must-have. I love the attention to detail in the artwork and the gameplay. Plus, those standees look amazing. I can't wait to add them to my collection.

Dude, Arkham Asylum? That's awesome! I've been wanting a new DC deck-building game for ages. The Rogues Gallery is so much fun to play with. And those travel boxes? I need one of those. I love taking my games on the go. This Kickstarter is totally worth it.

This is so cool! I've been getting into TTRPGs recently, and I've been looking for a good deck-building game to try. The DC Deck-Building Game seems like a perfect fit. I love the idea of being able to play as different characters and build your own deck. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this Kickstarter.

I'm absolutely thrilled about this new expansion. Deck-building games are a great way to introduce new players to the world of tabletop gaming, and I can see this being a hit with both casual and hardcore fans. I'm particularly excited about the oversized character cards and the multiverse dividers. I can't wait to add this to my collection.

While I'm not a huge fan of deck-building games, I'm still intrigued by this expansion. The Arkham Asylum setting is incredibly rich and full of potential for storytelling. I can see this being a great way to introduce new players to the DC universe and get them excited about more narrative-focused TTRPGs.
