April will shower this planet with DC goodness, as proven by the latest three-month-early solicitation released by the superhero factory today. Welcome to the DC Comics Solicitations April 2023!
Despite being a visual medium, completely “silent” comics (meaning no dialogue) are tricky to pull off! The text is one of the few resources the author has to control the pace at which the reader is following the story. If that’s taken away, the eye is free to just go wherever it wants, making timing and pacing much MUCH harder to direct. But that’s what Gustavo Duarte will be attempting this month in the unique comic, DC Speechless! Six short comedic stories written and drawn by Duarte will portray your favorite heroes in a wacky new light. This 56-page comic will be released April 18!
Thanks to the events of Dark Crisis, Connor Kent is back — and once again taking up the title of Superboy! But the same event that brought him back to Earth-1 also brought other Super-people…so many he really can’t find any crime to fight. Connor will just have to hit the road and search for something else to do. Superboy: The Man Of Tomorrow launches the first of six issues April 18.
If you’re a fan of the Doom Patrol series, check out the place where they came from. Unstoppable Doom Patrol, their latest comic, has Robotman, Rita Farr, Jane, Negative Man and even folks that have left the TV series like Chief. Plus, in this issue you get Flex Mentallo! Issue #2 comes out April 25.
Why are Clark Kent and Lex Luthor BUDDIES? Did Smallville get a reboot? That’ll probably happen eventually, but it has nothing to do with Clark & Lex, a new graphic novel for young readers. The young super-teen is bored at the farm and will take any excuse to get away….so when he finds out about a summer internship in Metropolis, he discreetly uses his powers to bump himself to the top of the list. There he meets Lex, and the pair have an instant mystery to solve: why are the other competitors for the internship disappearing? Wait’ll you see Lex’s wild hair!
Oh, and…even though it’s in May, DC has released its Free Comic Book Day plans in the April solicitation. They include a preview of the graphic novel Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story, a chapter from Clark & Lex, and Dawn of DC, a catch-all preview issue for upcoming titles.
