ChuChu Rocket Universe Launches On Apple Arcade
ChuChu Rocket, the Dreamcast classic, is back….sort of. The long-overdue sequel game ChuChu Rocket Universe — 20 years in the making — is finally here, but currently the only version of it is locked behind a pay subscription service.
We’re talking about Apple Arcade…if you don’t own an Apple device, you cannot play ChuChu Rocket Universe. Not on Switch, not on Steam, not on anything but iPhone and iPad. We’re really hoping this isn’t permanent and that the game will find at least one more home soon.
Mechanics in ChuChu Rocket Universe are the same as in the original: help the mouselike ChuChus escape the jaws of the catlike KapuKapus by guiding them with directional arrows to their space rocket. Against another player, your goal is to rescue more ChuChus than they do. The Dreamcast was so ahead of its time that this online component existed in the original game. On dial-up.
There are also some new elements:
• Over 100 mind-bending 3D puzzles to solve as players will travel through 12 surprising and delightful constellations
• Puzzle mode, challenge mode and boss battle
• Jump into a four-player quick match or invite your friends to join you in a multiplayer battle
• Master every Constellation and collect all the Achievements!
Apple Arcade launched September 19 for $4.99 a month. Hopefully the contract Sega signed with Tim Cook wasn’t too binding and the game will see release on another format eventually.
