Check Out This Unofficial Link’s Awakening Remake While You Can

An anonymous programmer has uploaded a pretty cool remix of The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening to itch.io today. Dubbed Link’s Awakening DX HD, it’s a souped-up version of the Game Boy Color title with extra, modern-day features.

The game runs at 120 FPS if your PC supports it (and it probably does; this isn’t a graphically taxing game). It displays in widescreen and you can view multiple screens at once. In fact, you can increase the view size by zooming out and see the entirety of Koholint Island in active time, with monsters and NPCs moving independently at once. As a youngster playing this game I dreamed of doing that.

We know every other site you’ve been to today has already told you about this, but we’re pointing it out as well because if you want to try it, you should really get a move on that download button. Whenever the entire Internet discovers one of these fan projects and hypes them up, it’s only a short matter of time before Nintendo comes after the host with the ban hammer. We doubt the game will be on itch tomorrow. Better get it today!

Even if this remake gets taken down (which it will), there’s a perfectly good and official remake from Nintendo themselves on the Switch, which was released in 2019 and can be found on sale this holiday season for $39.99. All the charm of the original game is there. The only weak point is the new “dungeon creator” feature that feels half-baked, as it only lets you rearrange existing dungeon rooms, not truly create your own.

As much as I'm tempted by this fan-made version, I'll stick with the official Nintendo release. The company deserves the support for their hard work, and honestly, the Switch remake captures the essence of Link's Awakening beautifully. Let's not risk the ban hammer, people!

Explored Link's Awakening DX HD, and the widescreen view adds an artistic touch to Koholint Island. It's like playing within a living canvas. The anonymous programmer deserves applause for turning a classic into a visual masterpiece. The ban threat is unfortunate, but sometimes, art requires a bit of rebellion.

Got Link's Awakening DX HD and, honestly, it's a blast! The rebellious spirit in me loves these fan projects. Who cares about the ban hammer? I'll enjoy the ride while it lasts. Embrace the chaos and play Link's Awakening like it's 1993

Link's Awakening! This takes me back. I remember the days of the Game Boy Color. While the HD remake is intriguing, nothing beats the charm of the original. Guess I'll stick to my trusty Switch for a hit of nostalgia – dungeon creator quirks and all

Checked out the remake cautiously; the enhancements sound impressive, but I can't help but worry about the ban hammer from Nintendo. Better be quick with that download button, folks! Also, let's not forget the official Switch version - got it during a sale last year, and it's a solid nostalgic trip.

Running at 120 FPS sounds cool, but can my PC handle it without melting? I might pass on this one, sticking to the official Switch version for a smoother experience. I mean, come on, who needs 120 FPS in a Zelda game? Practicality over graphics, right?
