Check Out This Over The Garden Wall Stop-Motion Short

You might think Cartoon Network was a bit slow on the upload button when they published a surprise Over The Garden Wall short to their social media channels a few hours ago. I mean, isn’t this miniseries a Halloween thing? Why present us with three new minutes of it at a time when we’re taking our pumpkins and cobwebs down?

Here’s something you might not know. Over The Garden Wall didn’t premiere on Halloween or anywhere close to it. The original run began on November 3, 2014. Yup, it started as a November series, closer to Thanksgiving than October 31. IT’S A ROCK FACT!

But that Rock Fact also means the mini just turned ten years old, which is why this anniversary short exists. Everyone reunited to make it happen: voice actors Elijah Wood (Wirt), Collin Dean (Greg), Melanie Lynskey (Beatrice) and Frank Fairfield (The Toy Maker/Narrator), as well as series creator Patrick McHale. The animation was done by none other than Aardman, and they went through the trouble of making models for every character, though you only see most of them for a few seconds.

Welcome back to the Unknown. Walk through the familiar yet mysterious mist. Feel the gentle wind beckoning through the leaves. Listen closely to the birdsongs and whispered secrets.
