Blade Runner RPG: Replicant Rebellion Announced

In 2022 Free League introduced a Blade Runner tabletop RPG to the market. It couldn’t help but sell, and the expected expansions came forthwith: Fiery Angels was intoduced in 2023, and soon for 2024 we will have Replicant Rebellion, the second expansion.

While the first two scenarios have cast players as Blade Runners, this new one flips the script and puts everyone in roles of Replicants. You’re secretly planning a rebellion against society while attempting to remain hidden and disguised among the masses. The specific goals will be up to you: possible plots include helping fugitive Replicants, sabotaging the Replicant trade, going to war with rival robo-gangs and syndicates, and more. “Replicant Rebellion dares you to explore how much you’re willing to lose for a cause that’s sacrificing it all,” says Free League. “Yet regardless the price, the Rebellion must live on.”

Replicant Rebellion for Blade Runner: The Roleplaying Game will include:

  • An in-depth overview of the history and organization of the Replicant Underground, charting its presence throughout the Blade Runner Universe.
  • Detailed guidelines on how to play a Replicant Underground campaign, including several new player character archetypes and various new rules, such as maintaining Covers and sweating the Heat as the law closes in.
  • Several complete Operations (i.e., full adventures) to play for a crew in the Replicant Underground.

The crowdfunding campaign for Blade Runner RPG: Replicant Rebellion is set to go live next week, May 28. We’ll have more about it then.

Finally! Blade Runners were fun, but there's something undeniably thrilling about playing the other side. This Replicant Rebellion expansion sounds like a whole new ball game. Learning the underground's secrets, creating a cover identity, sweating the damn replicant police... sign me up. Can't wait to see those new character archetypes and operations.

Intriguing concept, but I have reservations. I loved the moral ambiguity of the base game, hunting replicants while questioning their humanity. Flipping the script to play the hunted could be powerful, but I worry it might lose some of that nuance. Still, the idea of a ragtag group of replicants fighting for freedom is pretty darn cool. Guess I'll wait for more details before deciding to back the Kickstarter.

New player archetypes, huh? Gotta see the stats before I commit. But sabotaging the replicant trade and going to war with robo-gangs? Now that's my kind of campaign! Wonder if there'll be any rules for hacking into replicant control systems or customizing your own gear. This expansion has a lot of potential for creative problem-solving and tactical combat. Definitely keeping an eye on that Kickstarter.

This Replicant Rebellion expansion sounds like a storytelling goldmine. Exploring the motivations and struggles of the replicant underground? That's some deep thematic territory. Can't wait to see those pre-written operations; they could be jumping-off points for some genuinely emotional campaigns. Just hoping the new mechanics don't bog things down too much. A good balance between character development and tense action is key.

About damn time. The base game glorified those damn Blade Runners. This expansion lets us play as the hunted, the misunderstood. Society might call us machines, but we feel, we dream, we yearn for freedom. This rebellion is about more than just survival; it's a fight for our right to exist. May 28th can't come soon enough. We'll show them what replicants are truly capable of.
