Awesome Games Done Quick Begins Today!
Every January and July, the most skilled gamers from across the country meet to blaze through, break and dominate your favorite video games in a weeklong marathon for a worthy cause. It’s Games Done Quick, back once again under its “Awesome” variation for another week of insane live plowthroughs.
The full schedule can be found here. Highlights for the first day include Splatoon, Diddy Kong Racing, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (how do you speedrun through this? You’ll have to watch to find out) and a three-person competitive Super Mario 64 race for 120 stars.
Donating is tax-deductible (though since the new year just happened, you’ll have to wait a while) and every donation puts you in the running for something rare and valuable. Prizes offered depend on the hour and the game currently being played. The charity this time is the Prevent Cancer Foundation, the only U.S. nonprofit organization solely devoted to cancer prevention and early detection.
You can watch the festivities online at gamesdonequick.com or on anything that supports the Twitch app. This includes Roku, which I use to stream AGCQ on the TV (I recommend this). Awesome Games Done Quick runs all week through January 10.
