Gearbox Announce Battleborn The developers behind the Borderlands series have today revealed their first original franchise since Borderlands launched as Gearbox announce Battleborn. Revealed as the cover story for the next issue of Game Informer, Battleborn is described as “a fusion of first-person shooting and loot-grabbing RPG elements in a living comic book art style” which doesn’t sound too far flung from Gearbox’s most popular Borderlands series. Here’s the announcement trailer for Battleborn. According to the reveal post on the Game Informer website, Gearbox is looking to “change your perception of genres” with Battleborn, and there is also a mention of borrowing elements from popular MOBA games like League of Legends or Defense of the Ancients (DOTA). Battleborn will be publisher by 2K Games and will be released for PS4, PC and Xbox One – at present, there’s no release date for the game. EA Were Charging for Game Demos There was some slightly worrying news for gamers from Australia and the UK today as EA were charging for game demos on Xbox platforms. Game demos seem to be on the decline as a whole, particularly on consoles; head into the PSN or Xbox store and you’ll be doing well to find a demo for the latest, or a forthcoming, release. In Australia and the UK however, EA seemingly attempted to take things to a whole new level by charging gamers a fee for demos. Demos of both UFC and FIFA 14 on Xbox One required a fee to be paid before they could be downloaded. The fee was £3.99 on the UK Xbox store, which equates to around $6.85 in American dollars. Oculus, the company behind the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift, have today updated their official Kickstarter page with news that the company have acquired Carbon Design Group – the award winning company who worked in partnership with Microsoft to help develop the controller for the Xbox 360. The post from Oculus states the following; We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve agreed to acquire the Carbon Design team, one of the premier industrial design and product engineering teams in the country, with over 50 awards to their name. As part of the deal, the team will officially become a key component of the product engineering group at Oculus, operating from the Carbon studio in the Seattle area. They’ll also be working closely with the Oculus R&D team based out of Redmond. We expect the deal to close by the end of summer.
